• some help

    maybe it's a bit off topic, it's a way it's not.

Here's the problem. I want to provide as web based forum so sysop can
advertise theirs tradewars games. Back in the day I would advertise on the forum over at http://www.classictw.com but let just say that when i went back to active tradewars hosting last year things have changed. Much slower, to be expected, it's not getting more popular for sure.

But just getting there to announce it's next to impossible, hard to find
active moderator how would clear a use for posting etc.

I've hosted wordpress for years and there is a bbpress available. So i'll grab my courage and open it up. but before opening to the general population. I would appreciate you help, so if you could go to http://mtlgeek.com and create an account ( http://mtlgeek.com ) by registering then try to post in the forum at http://mtlgeek.com/forums/ i would appreciate. Just to see if it's robust enough, it's behind a CDN. I don't what to make it too restrictive.

I've chosen for the moment to make it web based because I guess it would be more accessible to would be new players. Retro gaming seem to be a trend, why not to try to get some new fresh players. I've been getting newbies by advertising in Reddit with some success.

The initiative you see is not just to promote my own servers but also to help any others sysop that want one more platform to promote. I just feel there is
a little gap right now and just want to help a bit.

Any observations from you will be appreciated.

Advertise in DoveNet BBS ads, and it will be spread across MANY web based forums that are crawled by GOOGLE and other search provders daily. Just as these messages are. the ECv4 Web for SBBS kicks ass, and is as good or better than any other web BB out there.

Been advertising for years on DoveNet, i'm not counting it out. My SEO is not so bad on my site do get traffic just from there.

But for tradewars where i got more traffic was with REDDIT would you
believe and just that the fact that with tradewars jumpgate people do see
    it on the tradewars wiki.

Just that I think, thanks to the hipsters maybe, retro gaming seem to have
some traction, I guess it would be the perfect to advocate our deprecated technologies to a new crowd :-D

i'm intrigued by ECv4, i'll experiment with it, not crazy about it's look but it must be a was to customize, like i said i need to experiment. If you can
add metadata information to the page like keywords and description in the metadata it does help the ranking on google.

but i'm allways affaid to open a forum from dovenet on the openweb don't want to create an eternal September on dovenet and end up with a bunch of troll. I like wordpress because it come with some protections, but nothing is full proof, to be honest my wordpress is on a shared host some I'm less afraid of being hacked :-)

maybe eventually i'll run the bbs vm and tradewar vm offsite but right now
    they are self hosted.

Yes, and thats very cool, I've noticed the same.

    Yes, that is fully possible.

Message areas can now be moderated through SBBS. so the package, along with ecweb4 should do all you ask of it plus more.

for some reason I don'l like running ANY of my stuff offsite, I love having my loud heater of a BBS machine running providing that smooth hum we have all grown to know and love, and also when someone calls in, I love hearing the modem being picked up, really put me back to the good old days.

Like you I like to have the bbs and my Tradewars server at my home.

But usually my web stuff like personal websites etc I keep elsewhere to a increased uptime and if I get hack it's not on my home servers ;-)

Eventually I might get a more professional internet plan at home and self
    host everything.
