I think that's driven by how much memory is in the system,T540p/Win7 = 8GB ram T60/XP = 3GB ram And.. and the reference point
because it's writing a copy of memory to disk? Assuming you have
more memory in the T540p. :)
for restoring from hibernate is that both pcs have no progs running
prior to Hibernate.

Well, perhaps none running in the foreground. Background programs who knows?

The T540p is fairly plain jane. Although I bought it last December,
I really only started using it when the T60 wouldn't boot about a
month ago. It doesn't even have a virus prog on it yet. However, I
would have expected the SSD/8GB-equipped pc to boot much much (did I
say much?) faster than the 10yr old T60. Coming out of hibernate is
under 30 seconds for both, so that's not too bad. --- ■ Synchronet ■ The Rusty MailBox - Penticton, BC Canada

Almost every time I've had any sort of lag issues on a Windows system,
it could be traced to system programs running/locking up in the background. Nothing that I installed myself, unless it was a program
that had minimum requirements beyond what that computer had, but I
forced it into running anyway.
Yeah, my current system is a Core2 Quad with 8 GB of RAM and SATA
drives. I boot it up, get a cup of coffee, then come back to it.
It'll be nice when I finally go to SSD on my desktop.
Once it gets up in the morning, it does just fine. Sounds a bit like
me getting up in the morning.

I'm looking for another Precision workstation, probably a 3610. An Optiplex 9010 wouldn't be a bad call, either; the 9XXX series used to
have onboard RAID.

do you really need a RAID? i've never benefitted from them and i've
done a lot of stuff. i just backup.

Does Dell make a good laptop? Which one is the best?
Is there an off brand name laptop that's better?
Who makes good laptops with the linux OS?

I bought my system in 2011, and in 9 years had 1 drive failure that
RAID prevented from being a system failure. It's more of a security blanket than a necessity.
