You got me beat by 7 years. I didn't get into the BBS schene until 1992.
It is great to see the FTNs alive and kicking, and that some of the old
DOS doors run just fine still. Brings back some good memories.

the latest shareware games and follow up with all my messages.

i had a blast doing it....

The first board i ever called was a WWIV board called "Pirates Cove"...

Ahh, the good old daze! I, too -- I mostly liked te messaging aspects, & the camaraderie in the LORD games (was as close to the old text adventure games I ever found)

I called 10+ boards/day in my heyday, all local, as they began dying out post-Y2K, I branched out & called several other DOS-based boards LD. At one point I was putting in 6,000 minutes/month of long distance modem calls!

I'm still RL friends with a couple sysops!

I realized I was sick of facebook a little while ago, & missing the easygoing chat/fun of BBSing & Fidonet, so talked to my one sysop mate about
reconecting my old point, but he's bee out of the loop for a while,so
referred me to the sysop of the taglined BBS below; I'm out of the loop, too, as I'm unable to get my point setup working. . .

I helped plan a big meetup/party at one point, for a multinode BBS I was on. Great fun, including a massive water fight!

Did smaller GTGs at local bars, too. . . ahh, the good ol' pre-internet days.
    . . I still miss them.

I still have my trusty old DOS IBM 486 ready to be plugged in & reconnect to the BBSes still accepting dialup!

    I'm in a sub-burp of Vancouver, Canada. . where's you?

I started using BBSes in 1992, and I don't know exactly how many BBSes were in my area, but I think it could have easily been at least 80, or even more. There was a local BBS list that was regularly maintained and uploaded to many BBSes in my area, and I remember it having so many BBSes that I wouldn't have tried calling them all (and I seem to remember there being some adult boards too, so I would have been too young at the time to call those).

It's pretty shocking to look at some of the old nodelists. I remember
needing to find a better archiver than ARC to make it fit on a floppy disk!

Region 10 had what seemed like hundreds of BBSes to call.

I had a hardcore group of callers back in the dial-up days, mostly for an othernet I was in. When I went private for a time (needed the phone line for
a consulting business) that all dropped off. When I came back with a telnet BBS, a couple of them tried it out, but dropped it quickly. When I asked
    why?

"Momentum". BBSing had a time and a place for some, but when the scene went away, it was time to go.
