• Second hand HAM starter kit

    Hi all,

    I want to start with HAM radio hoby, and I do not have anything from the equipment. Eventually I am interested to build HAM packed radio BBS..
    Any suggestions ?

    I suggest purchasing an affordable handheld VHF/UHF radio like the Baofeng UV5r. Invest in a programming cable which will make things much more enjoyable.

    You can later purchase better antennas, even one for your house. You would be very surprised how far you can reach with a decent antenna and through a repeater.

    This is all assuming you have your ham license (at least technician level) Go to www.arrl.org for more info.

    You would be able to easily get into packet radio with the little HT hooked up to a computer with a sound card interface, but i think that is getting ahead of yourself atm!
