Hey folks..I just got my first Raspberry Pi today, I was shopping because I heard much about the Pi and I settled on getting the Pi 3 only for the fact that it has built in wifi and bluetooth so I dont need to keep it wired or
have any speakers/headphones plugged in for audio..

My plan is to work on Mystic for the Pi, I just wanna know if there is anyone else out there running it?

    My PLAN (lol)

    Raspberry Pi 3 (arm/v7)
    uBuntu Mate 16.3 (pi edition)
    Mystic BBS (32bit arm/v6 edition)

I haven't had much experience with Mystic on Linux so I know I'm going to be doing some hardcore hair pulling (if I wasn't already bald) trying to get DOS doors working with the BBS and dosemu (hate hate hate) .. so I am all ears if anyone has any tips or hints to point me along the proper path.

Much oblidged to any info I get from anyone

Dozens of people running it. Check the mystic echo on fido or fsxnet.
I ran it myself for a while, but I like my ezycom setup too much to shut
    it down. :)

Yea I was watching a few videos on YouTube by MysticGuy .... I'm going to
plug away at it.. I have the Pi up and running using the uBuntu 16.04
release. I was just looking for any inside info that is a common issue that
    has not been addressed yet.

Yessir. Quite a few of us are using Mystic on a Pi. I'm happy to answer any questions.

As far as I know there is still no Pi/ARM version of dosemu. ARM has some kind of DOS emulator that hasn't been proven 100% successful with getting door games to work executed from a BBS. So while in the future I may even be thinking to moving from my tower to somethink in the lines of a Pi, I will definitely want dosemu support. So we have a couple options.

    1) If I/you/we can pool together and contact dosemu's upstream devs, or even the devs for each distribution of Pi/linux operating systems (we might want to start with Debian, since Ubuntu and whatnot is all forked from it anyways; asking them for a working ARM version of dosemu to tinker with, or

    2) Contact the devs of the one that is currently available in ARM disributions (looks like QEMU and rpix86 are the major players) and try to make sure these can be virtualized either using old com ports or something so they would actually be able to be executed from a BBS.

I'm guessing the main issue currently is just that they are emulators much like DOSBox, and can only be used as single user sessions. Whereas dosemu is able to be run in multiple instances so 3 users can be online at once running the same game of LORD, for example.

I don't know specifics and I'm just guessing, as I'm not a developer. The only thing I have going is experience, and dosemu has worked on Linux for me for years so I would actually like to see option #1 fullfilled if at all possible, but if we have to go another route and still be able to keep it simple, I'm all for it. That paired with the fact I'm not a developer of any kind, makes it difficult to actually try to do it myself - hence contacting the devs is really the only way I could go about it. :)

    Nick

Ok well from what I have been seeing, dosemu will NOT build on the Pi.. the only supporting x86 emulator that I have found is rpix86 .. it's pretty lean and doesn't support many options but I DO believe I will be able to make it work. I can launch the emulator from the door menu and be brought to a C:\> prompt so that is promissing..

I tried a pre-build binary of dosemu+freedos but it did some complaining when
I tried to run it .. even trying to do a basical call to the dosemu.bin returned an execution error .. I suspect because it's not build for the ARMHF processor :)

I have lots of time to get things done.. broken arm keeping me from working
so I have all day to play lol ..

It's a real pain in the butt because I don't have a monitor with an HDMI
input and the only TV in the house that I can use it on is way upstairs and
my computer room is in the basement and VNC seems to be a bit glitchy with failing to start and the server crashing it's hard to remote desktop with the viewer so a lot of trips up and down the stairs lmao

I've changed DDNS providers for the launch of the new BBS so if anyone is interested in helping me get things off the ground with any suggestions, the BBS is running you can check it out

I'm going to prep a second MicroSHDC card and try the uBuntu Mate release for the Pi.. I know there are alot of packages for uBuntu that exist that do not appear in the Raspbian repo .. so between the 2 I'm sure I can come up with some sort of a solution.. I'm a pretty resourceful guy when I need to be.

I'm guessing the main issue currently is just that they are emulators

rpix86 does seem promising, just need to kickstart the dev into making it a
bit more practical.. as it sits I DO believe it is a viable option, just need to put heads together and come up with a solution

added to door menu with a hidden command execute program

    rpix86 -a2 -f2 -d/mystic/doors/lord

does launch the emulator and drops me to the C prompt when I try it from a local session, but when I try it from a remote telnet session it doesn't
    work.. so it's close....

Yeah I meant to include that in my original response. I see Accession has already responded about dosemu.

Here's the thing about games... not many people are actually playing them. We all want them, but very few of us play them. There are at least four door server solutions I can highly suggest that will be very easy for you to get
    up and running on:

    - BBSLink
    - BCR Games Server
    - DoorParty
    - CombatNet

Of these, BBSLink has the most active LORD games, as it's the oldest. BCR contains original games from Bit Sunrise BBS. DoorParty is a ton of games and has a lot of good stuff, and CombatNet is similar, with an emphasis on FTN networked games like Barren Realms Elite.

However, if you want to try to get local doors going, check out Gryphon's
BBS, Cyberia. He's devised a method to run DOS doors. I think there are some kinks in the process, but it does work!

Hmm, what version? I got 3.16c to compile fine under Raspian Wheezy, but I tried 3.17 (development version), and the compilation bombed after a couple of hours. I didn't get around to sussing out the issue.

Also, it's easiest to compile from git rather than use the .zip, less steps involved. :)

From what I've read about qemu, it will most likely be the slowest option (as in actual operation). Continuing progress on rpix86 or porting dosemu seems to be the best options so far.
