I want to install MAC OS on my HP500B MT PC. Any recommendations as to the easiest way? There are hundreds of videos on YouTube. Just need some input from anyone who has done so,and which way has the best success rate. Thanks in advance :-)

You would have to do some searching to make sure all of the hardware in that PC
are compatible with OSX. If you see any videos for making your specific PC (with your specific hardware) into a hackintosh, then you may be okay. But if one major component isn't compatible it can cause some hefty issues.

Just by looking at your specs (as long as you haven't changed anything), most of it looks Intel based, so you may get lucky.

Also, I'm not sure if they (the hackintosh crowd) made a way to do so yet, but back when I was messing with this stuff, you could NOT upgrade anything OS related once you installed, otherwise it would basically become unbootable and you'd have to start over again. This was quite a few years ago, though, so things may have changed and/or gotten better since.

Depending on how you're viewing this, and also how far the hackintosh community
has come - if you're doing it just for fun, or if you actually want to make a stable machine out of it - you may want to try FreeBSD instead, and then install a desktop environment and make it look however you want it to.

    Regards,
    Nick

I've installed Linux distros that favor the MAC OS look, but really want the real thing. I'm now beginning my weekend and will begin experimenting. Thanks man!

Ralph, FreeBSD is not Linux, MacOS is essentialy a hacked over version of FreeBSD, so if you install FreeBSD you have the same software, just not all the holes and other crap the Apple "Developers" added to an already stable product.

In that case, I hope the hackintosh community has grown leaps and bounds since I tried it last. Otherwise, your best bet is probably going to be actually buying Mac hardware.

OSX is actually built on FreeBSD, that is why I mentioned going the (possibly) more "stable" route. Either way, I wish you luck and great fortune in your adventure! :)

I tried a hackintosh a few years ago in a VMware VM. It worked for the first few boots, then for some reason, it has refused to boot since (hangs during startup). I did this for recovery purposes, after my Mac died in 2013. :( I haven't tried the hackintosh for a couple of years, since the boot issue seems to be unfixable. :(

Well, it's built on Darwin, which is BSD based. I can't confirm if it's FreeBSD or one of the other BSDs that it's most closely related to.

Since OSX also does automatic updating, if you didn't completely disable that and one little thing was updated, it can and will bork your entire setup making
it unbootable. This was one of the major reasons after my only attempt at a hackintosh I never tried it again.

I think its pretty well known that it is more akin to FreeBSD..

It's possible, all I know is it is related to *BSD.

Wikipedia has this to say on the subject:

"Darwin is an open-source Unix operating system released by Apple Inc. in 2000. It is composed of code developed by Apple, as well as code derived from NeXTSTEP, BSD, Mach, and other free software projects. ... The kernel of Darwin is XNU, a hybrid kernel that combines a heavily modified version of the Mach 3.0 kernel, various elements of BSD (including the process model, network stack, and virtual file system) and an object-oriented device driver API called I/O Kit."

So it kinda sounds like what I said could fit the description then. They most likely started with BSD as well as the kernel (is is pretty well known that it was FreeBSD), and added quite a few of their own personal touches to it. Not that it matters much, as they still only target specific hardware that I'm not willing to pay for after they slap that bit-into apple logo on it. :)

I've priced out the hardware in a PC environment in the past, and it is definitely cheaper without that logo on it. That and OSX itself never really interested me, either. iOS is even worse, in my personal opinion.

On the other hand, there is a huge fanbase out there, so they're definitely doing something right as well by appealing to the large crowd. I've just never been sold on it, is all.

I just installed Mac OS X El Capitan and Sierra on my PC using VMWare and images I found online. So far everything is working at full speed. DVD
movies I cannot see for some unknown reason. I am using an Acer
ATC-780A-UR11 with Windows 10 64 bit, Inter Core i5 6400, Intel HD graphics
530 and 8Gb memory with 4 GB dedicated to virtual machine.
