This is how I got ANSI to work in Slackware --- http://techtinkering.com/articles/?id=33
I saved the rxvt terminal as a script.... just to make it easy on my end.

I was unfder the impression that most terminal emulators supported color ansi escape sequences? in Ubunntu, I just set the encoding to IBM 850 and get decent results. YMMV, and I haven't tried syncterm, so I mayt not know what i'm missing...

Yup, with SyncTERM, I get the feeling I'm using an old dialup program, like Telix. I believe you can even limit the data rate to modem levels. It has
all the features you'd expect: scrollback buffer, several transfer protocols
to choose from...heck, if I'm not mistaken, the thing even emulates the Operation Overkill terminal.

Anyhow, point being...yes, you don't know what you're missing. :)

But do they also support high-ASCII characters that many ANSI/BBS screens use? I've seen some terminal emulators that may support ANSI escape sequences for color, but if they don't have the proper font (high-ASCII) support, the results still look a bit ugly. Also, I doubt a Linux terminal supports file transfers..

    Another nay-sayer.
Why don't you give it a try. If you don't like it, then fine.
Until then -- quit pissing, whining, and critiquing stuff you've never
    touched.

P.S. Z-Modem is built into Syncterm, you sniveling little puke.

umm, WTF? Why are you talking to me like that?

And why do you assume it's stuff I've never touched? I've actually used Linux quite a bit, and I've tried telnetting to a BBS from a bash shell (using Gnome Terminal) and found that Gnome Terminal doesn't display high-ASCII characters often used on BBSs. That's all I was aying - didn't say I didn't like it..

P.S. Z-Modem is built into Syncterm, you sniveling little puke.

Yes it is.. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

And I relly don't know why you call me a "sniveling little puke".. Was it something I said?

I don't understand your reaction.. Is this how you normally talk to people in everyday conversation?

No. Only to people who talk out of their a$$ when they obviously don't
    know what they're talking about.

I'd quote you at your own flaws in logic, but you already have a
tap-dance around those types of confrontations.

Oh yea. Being that you want to use a bash terminal to display ANSI ---
Here's how to do it correctly.

    AGAIN.
