Spectre also has a quake 3 server up and running but I forget the
server address.
Setting up Quake servers was the only thing I ever had to do with that game. And the whole office loved me when I moved the quake server from Windows to Linux (on a lesser powered machine too!).
It ran much better with no lag. :) From memory it was some sort of
wrapper that was used to load the Windows server .exe under Linux.

I have one at 193.235.20.156. Also hosting a Unreal Tournament-server
at the same address.

Was that quake or quake 3?
I have no experience with game servers at all. I may do something like that one day but I am liking and playing so many games I don't get a chance to settle on anything.
One of my favorites is now and always has been quake. I use quakespasm here and use that a lot for single player games. It has also a
multiplayer mode where folks can play deathmatch or cooperative. I
fired that up yesterday just for a look and may see if I can make that work.
The original quake has a vibrant community that create new maps for
quake still, even after all these years. The focus still seems to be single player or maybe I just have had my eyes closed.

I'll come around a little later today for a look.
Is that the UT GOTY edition from '99 or so? I have one of those.
