No end date. I'll have to renew the Blue Card eventually, and I can get permanent residency at 21 months.

How long do I intend to stay there? Hopefully at least two years. My goal is that long, then re-evaluate.

I mean, theoretically, I'll still have my BBS up and continue checking messages, with probably a small enough of a gap that people won't notice. :)

But, hey, I'll be nine time zones east, for whatever difference that makes.

On the bright side, my BBS being on UTC won't be nearly as odd as it is now.

But, yeah, it'll be interesting to see if there's a noticeable difference in posting because of that time difference.

Heck, might end up being about the same, just that instead of checking it in the late morning in the Pacific time zone, I'm checking it after work in Central European Time.

Does that show up as non-gibberish for you? E.g., aside from the
n-with-tilde, and e-with-accent, it's just lines that I associate with ANSI drawing and math symbols.

Anyway, I have a Spanish keyboard (as in, from Spain), and have AutoHotKey
set up so that I can type an esset (looks like a fancy B). So, outside of BBS land, I have no problems typing Spanish characters, or things with umlauts, etc.

But my Alt-Group keys don't work through SyncTerm or MagiTerm, and I assume there'll still be issues with the character set, since it predates things
    like the Euro character.

Interesting. You responded to Spectre, but I was unaware of this site, so
    thank you.

Mind you, my usage of translators tends to be to translate little bits I
don't know, or take a longer thing and make the language worse so that it better approximates something I'd actually say in the non-English language.

Hah! Yeah, the quantity of FSXnet people in Europe does seem a bit thin.

I was assuming there was just not as much of a BBSing scene there.

But, eh, at least they have a healthy demoscene.

Leaving September 8th, arriving September 9th. Going there for a junior developer job, and planning (hoping) to stay there at least two years, and re-evaluate at that point.

At that two year point, hopefully I can get permanent resident status. And perhaps I'd head to a different job somewhere. But it's far enough in the future that I'm not about to have overly specific plans on it, as there's
lots of known unknowns, and unknown unknowns to go through first.

That seems to agree with whatever my brain thinks it's read on the topic before, so seems plausible.

I also remember something about France having some fancy system/network/whatever that was the pre-eminant thing.

I suppose BBSing came about, in part, due to local calls being free/cost-per-call.
