The "his" is me! :D And, yes.. the whole point was to have an

The whole idea of going to a restaurant is to be SEEN. ;) Once
there, it's an opportunity to meet new people.

But do you feel the same way at a restaurant today? Sometimes we can
learn and gain confidence by witnessing other people doing something
and then we can say yeah it's not so bad to do that afterall.

I guess that can be true... I'm there for the food! lol

But do you feel the same way at a restaurant today?

Yeah, I'd never just casually strike up a conversion with just some rando.
And if someone tries talking to me my internal "Oh gawd! Another human
being!" alarm goes off. Just always kind of been that way. I was described
as "shy" as a kid, and I guess I just never grew out of it.

Yeah, the in-laws never rubbed off on me. He has a voice that fills a room
and loves chatting with anyone & everyone. I do admire how he can "make friends" in any given room/situation though.

    I disagree.

Maybe it is a Spanish thing, but lots of business deals are done in restaraurants and bars. They are a neutral place in which you can sign a 1 year contract while showing how big your wallet is by ordering premium cuisine, I think.

Come to think of it, half my deals with providers and customers have been done in a bar or restaurant.

The "idea" of being seen in a restaurant is one thing. But
whatever else you do there: drink, eat, conduct business,
that's cool too. But the restaurant setting is public.

That's cool. People would mutter, "Hey.. that's Richard with
the CEO of <insert top pharma company here>.

Nothing wrong with preferring to control your "space" or
    privacy.

Some people show up at my shop and probably think that I have
nothing better to do than listen to some non-business related
personal story. Or.. they don't think that at all, and just
talk and talk. In those times I think "Oh gawk! Another
    distraction!"

I knew a few people like that too. In both cases they were a
lot of fun to be around because almost every other sentence
    would be something funny.

I've seen motorcycles decked out with double side saddle
compartments and one right behind the driver. I am sure they
make them large enough for a 50lb bag of dog food. I've seen
Spyder pics that show trailers attached.

But.. if the joy of riding open air doesn't appeal to you,
then NO single trip to the store and be cast among humans will
be any fun. I can appreciate that.

Ever here about Christopher Knight? He entered the Maine woods
at the age of 17 or so and remained there in isolation for 27

There is a book about this fellow:

He ultimately couldn't stand other people and decided to just
live on his own in the woods of Maine.

I want an Ural motorcycle with a sidecar - always loved the
inspiration, WWII-era BMW motorcycles when I was a kid building
    models.

That would be a great cargo hauler when you didn't have a
    passenger...

What an odd scenario... I'm more with Warp on this one.. I'll add an extra ìfew foibles though... find a table as far away from everyone else as ìpossible, only order food I know, cause I hate wasting money on some new ìfangled dish I end up not liking and barely add a grunt or mutter to any ìconversation.... what do you want, to talk or to eat?

I've inherited my family's ancient curse: No matter where I sit around the fire, the smoke will follow me & no matter where I sit in a restaurant the screaming baby will find me. ;)

I like to try new things every now & then at a restaurant - but I have to be
an in adventitious mood. Other times I'll stick to my tried & true
    favourites.
