    Hello All,

Today marked "day 1" of the beginning of the lifting of the
"stay at home" order in Ontario. Being in a tourist town that
serves as a gateway to cottage destinations, *and* being a
Friday, my town was jam-packed with vehicles pouring through
    all day.

I operate a small bookshop along the main street. After
several months of just languishing at the shop and just waiting
for closing time in the months prior, today seemed like the
first day I had to actually do any work, such as being civil to
    strangers.

What I found most interesting though.. is that many of those
    strangers were not wearing masks. I did not mind that myself;
legally I cannot extricate/remove someone if they choose to not
wear a mask, and still want to browse or purchase something.
But it is interesting that most people are treating this "day
1" as a kind of "covid days are over" thing and there is a
    general sense of freedom regained.

Here in Michigan we are about 2 to 3 weeks ahead you a far a restrictions being lifted. Being fully vaccinated we (wife and I) took full advantage of not wearing masks. My wife noticed people staring at us when went shopping and wonder if we should be wearing a mask. My explanation to her was no, after doing a lot of reading about covid and masks my personal conclusion is the masks are nothing more than a safety blanket for people. As I drive around I still see people wearing them in there cars while there alone and wearing them while they sit on a park bench. I only wish the those who ran out covid task force would have been more honest and forthright to the people. Of course this is just my opinion and I would hope others would do research to come to there own conclusions.

We're coming out of a short lockdown here, triggered by 2 clusters in Melbourne. The government is lifting restrictions in stages, and here in regional Victoria, we're coming out a bit quicker than Melbourne, as there's been no cases outside of the city, despite there being some exposure sites from potentially infectious travellers, early in the clusters (before lockdown).

Current rules require masks indoors (outside of home) and contact trraicing checkins at venues, which has now been extended to just about everywhere. People are generally complying. And there's been easing of restrictions on a weekly basis so far. And this week's looking promising for Melbourne, as the few new cases found have been close contacts who were already in isolation while infectious.

I've found that I've worn masks less reliably after being fully vaccinated,
but have become more likely to wear them for other reasons.

E.G., maybe it'll prevent a cold. And I've been in the LA area, where I oftentimes see a haze of pollution.

    I'm still a bit worried about getting/spreading a variant, but I guess I
don't find a mask to be particularly burdensome, most of the time.

And sometimes I wear a mask alone in a car, normally because it's less of a hassle to keep it on than to put it back on five minutes later.

I'm sorry.. but a person all alone in their car, and wearing a
mask looks really dumb. How complex is your mask? Mine just
has two loops for each ear; easy. Two loops is a hassle? :O

When COVID first started up I was running with a Twin Cart P2 respirator.. ìthat is a real hassle, I tend to be allergic to paper masks though. Two ìloops or a complete mask, most things either become a hassle, or common ìenough that you don't think about it any more. On/Off can be irritating ìdepending on circumstances, sometimes just easier to leave sleeping dogs as ìthey say :)

When the pandemic got started, all I had available here were the surgery room masks. They are more comfortable, but they don't have ear loops. You have to tie them with a knot in the back of your head. It is not "complex" but it requires certain dexterity.

Besides, the less you take these things on and off, the better. If I was going to drive for more than 20 minutes I would take the mask off, but if I expected to drive for 5 minutes, then get off the car, then drive for another 5 minutes... I'd most likely not take it off myself.

When COVID first started up I was running with a Twin Cart
P2 respirator.. that is a real hassle, I tend to be

    Respirator.. understandable.

Flipping the mask on an off at my shop all day can be an
overall hassled too - the the consensus might be to just leave
it on all the time. But I found out that leaving it having
over one ear when I want to breath normally is a good
    compromise.

But when driving alone and wearing a 2-loop mask? ..seems to be
    a sad commentary. :/

Try it when working around glasses and sometimes eating hair because my mask gets caught in something. Not to mention all the adjusting I seem to do to it to be happy with the seal.

If I'm driving for five minutes...

Not that I think it looks really dumb, nor particularly care, but I digress.
