• For Honour IBBS

From apam@21:1/125 to All on Thu Apr 18 15:30:24 2019
    Hi

Not sure how much interest there is in this, but I just added very basic interbbs support to for honour.

It uses the same interbbs code as galactic dynasty, but has less
features. ie, it only shares experience points and level (so it's really
    just an interbbs leaderboard).

I also removed the add / delete nodes from forhonour, as I understand it
    didn't work properly anyway?

This game used "FHR" as the packet extension. (Instead of "GAL")

Does anyone want to get this going and see if it works? Paul obviously
has dibs on being hub if he wants to, but I totally understand if
Galactic Dynasty is enough of a headache :)

I still need to get windows binaries working, so it's not completely
finished. Just wanted to gauge interest first.

My git repository is at git://git.magickabbs.com/forhonour-c or you can
    browse it at https://git.magickabbs.com/cgit/forhonour-c

At the current minute it's got interbbs stuff in it, but I still need to
tweak it for windows, but once that's done I'll send it to Paul to hatch
    out.

Usually for Galactic Dynasty Paul hatches out a particular version we are
using for interbbs (in win binaries and source for linux/etc). I imagine
it will be the same with For Honour.

I have a few other doors that compile on linux on my git repository so
feel free to browse and play :)

Definately! I haven't actually added a door to BBBS but will look into that.

    Does example.cfg become bbs.cfg again?

Just working on this now but could not see any docs?

Test game ID is 1 and you're BBS 3

I should be set up now.

Maybe you should hatch as FH_BBS.CFG and GD_BBS.CFG for people to rename
for the correct game. Might save a bit of confusion, and possible
    overwriting.

Ah, yes, no doubt! I've been massaging my GD maintenance/mailer script for Synchro/BinkIT, and if anyone has to use a script to
process a 'BBS.CFG' file that's just dropped on to the node, then we'd have to begin grepping for a match if we were to have
multiple games that used a 'BBS.CFG'.

How are the current GD sysops managing the inbound BBS.CFG? Is it being handled by Mystic automatically?

That's a great idea! Whenever I see a BBS.CFG in my inbound, I always have to look at it, in order to see where it belongs... :)

Nope. I've just been keeping an eye on the inbound, and handling it manually. If Paul does hatch them out with the specific filenames, I would be able to write a script to handle it.

Instead of needing to change files names for hatching can we perhaps just
agree on a name change for each file within each game? Then folks can just
drop them into the game and not need to rename them back to BBS.CFG

    I would suggest

    FH.CFG
    GD.CFG

    less typing the better :)

    I would suggest

    FH.CFG
    GD.CFG

I know it's more typing, but what about

    FNR-IBBS.CFG

    and

    GAL-IBBS.CFG

That way it's made up of the extension of packets for the game, and IBBS
    which indicates what it's for.

BBS.CFG wasn't my choice as originally the interbbs code was a module
someone else wrote. I've since re-written it, but left BBS.CFG as the
    name.

If I use the extension for the packets, it's one less config variable
needed (I can just use the packet extension one) - I wanted to make the interbbs code usable in different games easily.

For some reason agency seems to be sending recon packets constantly, when
