From MeaTLoTioN@21:1/158 to All on Wed Feb 27 03:35:32 2019
I upgraded everything and it all works ok, however I just realised that for some reason (unknown to me at least) the Message Index Reader hasn't changed.

I copied over the new ansi's and ini but my BBS is still using the old one.
Did I forget a step? (obviously I did... but what)

I know I'm running the version that I put in the title as that's what is showing when I get the version info from the CFG app (when running ./mystic -cfg)

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Its a different command change the menu command to M! and that will use the new Index Reader

Try changing the I menu item to call the !M function. That should fix it.

Probably the same step I forgot too Christian.. Change the command I to the
new Index reader I think it is M! Or something like that.. I said the same thing when I saw it on Avon's board and I didn't have it on mine..

Yep! That was what I forgot. Thank you and the others for mentioning it lol. Going to be giving it a little testeroony before making it live as I quickly played with it just now and see some weirdness with the colors bleeding and missing network separators so I need to go adjusting somethings.

One thing to note is that when I switch over to the new reader, the old one will be removed and the menu command will change from M! to MI to replace the old one.

So when I consider it "done" you'll have to go in and change it back to MI
    from M!

A simple request? Could you point both to the new index reader for a release? That way it doesn't break in one upgrade, and it gives those of us who forget steps a chance to not break our boards. lol!

I'm glad that it hasn't changed to MI yet as I installed the latest prealpha and M! borks up with weird color bleeding and messed up lists. Not to mention for some reason whenever i run it it asks me upon opening whether I want to unsubscribe from something, yes or no, sometimes it isn't even a message
base, it's a one liner from the rumours script!?!

How it thinks a one liner
is a message base I don't know. It's kinda funny but kinda annoying as I
really wanna use the new index reader.

Yes, maybe I will do that for one alpha. But its usually not about time, people either read the whatsnew/upgrade/fsx forum and implement the changes or they don't. Sometimes people forget a step or even I forget to document a step. Either way they never know until something breaks anyway :)

Please do. If you scroll back you can find at least 3 other people who reported the exact same problem, all of which were fixed when they copied
    over the msg_index* files.

One of the pre-alphas a while back I posted that this must be done because the prompts were changing so the default msg_index* have changed. If this is missed and you have the older version of those files then it will do exactly what you're describing.

I didn't put it in the upgrade.txt because there still might be changes made
to the format of those files, so it was very easy for people to miss that
    post I made.

Once again, legend! I did copy them before but I think I must have borked up the ansi in copying as I diffed them and there were some differences, even though the filesize was the same, but after a new copy it works.

Now I just gotta figure out a way to modify the ans to use my color scheme...

The prompts are all defined in the .ini. Pretty much everything is configurable, which is nice in the long run but it comes at the expense of being a little overwhelming at first.

You can edit the .ans with Mystic's ANSI editor to change that.

Glad its fixed! Its easily to overlook and probably not anything you did wrong. I can't really expect people to all read one single message posted in FSX_MYS to know they need to recopy those over. Once its done I will put it
in the upgrade.txt to copy them over.

Yep that cleared it up. I do still have a crash though if I change from whatever it's displaying (for example subscribed only) to all groups or unsubscribed only it crashes syncterm or dumps me back to my local terminal.

It happens every time, not sure if it's an issue with my laptop, my
connection, the session being sent a HUP command or what, but it didn't do it in the old version, so I think it's more likely a dodgy HUP code in the ansi
or script. I need to figure out if it's my end or mystic first before I raise any questions about it specifically though, unless anyone else has this issue too....

in the ansi or script. I need to figure out if it's my end or mystic
first before I raise any questions about it specifically though, unless anyone else has this issue too....

Nope, it's gotta be my laptop as I just tried it on my work laptop and it
works ok so deffo no issues with the new index reader. Phew!

That happened to me, you have to copy over the new msg_index* it didn get added in to the upgrade.txt g00r00 put out. Once I copied those couple files over it works pretty damn good now.

Yep that cleared it up. I do still have a crash though if I change from whatever it's displaying (for example subscribed only) to all groups or unsubscribed only it crashes syncterm or dumps me back to my local terminal.

It happens every time, not sure if it's an issue with my laptop, my connection, the session being sent a HUP command or what, but it didn't
do it in the old version, so I think it's more likely a dodgy HUP code
in the ansi or script. I need to figure out if it's my end or mystic

Out of curiosity try using Netrunner and see. Because I use textboxes for
some of my menus and it seems to work fine in netrunner but with syncterm it locks up and freezes then disconnects me without warning whenever I use
certain options in the text box menu.

Yes, maybe I will do that for one alpha. But its usually not about time, people either read the whatsnew/upgrade/fsx forum and implement the changes or they don't. Sometimes people forget a step or even I forget
to document a step. Either way they never know until something breaks anyway :)

Darwin works in mysterious ways! LMAO! Pull all the warning tags and signs

I'm guilty for that lol... sorry =)

Everything seems to work as it should, in spite of my my reckless lack of document reading lol... trying to train myself to read first and ask later
    haha o.O

Its a good habit to get into because you never know when something is going
    to change.

I need to make it a bit easier somehow to see the changes in each alpha though, as the whatsnew from 1.11 to 1.12 is like a 150kb text file by now.

As I have added sections to the wiki with each release this has helped a bit
I feel. I also find the wiki search useful when it comes to finding mentions
of something I may be looking for across multiple entries of whatsnew.txt

For me the wiki has been very helpful in this regard..

    Best, Paul

I hadn't considered how useful that search would be when it comes to having
the whatsnew in there. Thank you for doing that!

If I can get my life to settle down again, I want to start trying to log into the Wiki and make one update/addition every night before bed. There is so
much more to be documented and restructured.

If think if you're not a power/long-time user of Mystic you wouldn't even
know about half of the stuff it can do.
