• Help with install Door Games

From x1pepe@21:1/999 to All on Thu Dec 26 01:06:22 2019
    Hi Guys!
    I am a rookie.
I have my bbs in a Raspberry Pi 3, with Mystic Software. I want to install
Door Games, but I need a guide, where can I read a basic tutorial?

    Thanks!

Try the mysticbbs.com website or inside the DOCS directory, there is a file called windows_door_install that gives you 90% of what you need for a door. Even on linux, the menu commands are the same. Though you won't need netfoss. If you're running linux, you'll need QEMU/DOSEMU/DOSBOX/WINE/etc... to get DOS/WIN games running. It can be quite extensive depening on what you want to do. If you're a linux newbie (don't take offense if you're not), then you
might start with a linux compiled game to get the feel. I know usurper has a port on their gitlab page.

If you have specific questions once you've gotten a little further, please
    ask.

    I am a rookie.

We all have to start somewhere. Ran a board almost 30 years ago under DOS
until life got the better of me.

I have my bbs in a Raspberry Pi 3, with Mystic Software. I want to
install Door Games, but I need a guide, where can I read a basic
    tutorial?

I have my board almost setup on an RPI Zero W with a 20 GB USB HDD running
the BBS under Mystic. Actually runs faster than on this netbook.

May I suggest you look at DoorParty which will run on an RPi. Haven't gotten mine running yet because of an issue on the SSH port. Will look further into
it when I can get my echomail running.

Usually with the supplied DOCs in the door's package. On a Pi would be a bit rough, and a lot of hoops to jump through.

BUT (and I know everyone saw this coming), you can also apply to DoorParty,
get your doors that way. Easy setup, and a very good choice for people
    running a RPi.

Hey bud, I didn't know you were having issues. I actually help with install directly if anyone doesn't mind me jumping onto their system for a bit to
    iron things out.

Drop me a line at sysop@throwbackbbs.com or on my bbs and we can figure out a time to do that, if you like.

Thank you! Actually...found out about it after thinking I had the mail issue solved. Once I get that ironed out...then it's going back to get with you
    about DoorParty.

Will do...probably after the 1st of the year or if I can figure out why my Windows *.ini files with replaced paths for the RPi aren't working.

Am happy I've been bald almost 35 years or I would be now. ;)

Thank you for replying! With the trouble in getting this sending out/getting
in messages...love seeing any reply to know I did it right. In addition...was able to put my Mystic folder into the path...so no more ./ to run the board.

Do you have an infopak available? Would be more than happy to get it set up...as I'm learning also how to do BASH scripts to get the board to load iteslf.

Again...thank you for letting me know that others & I were able to accomplish this. Now...am going to attempt to write a how-to to save others the sweat I put out.

Ok. This is easy to setup in Mystic.

Go to Mystic Menu Editor and put this in wherever you want to.

WOW! Got it written down. Which game (doesn't matter which one) would there
be for me to be able to setup?

It'll be tomorrow before I will be able to get to it. Been the best day of
the holiday season & my last day of being 57.

    Thank you again!

Well, this command lets the user connect up to my game server and play any
game I have set up there. Then when they are done, they get sent back to
    your BBS.

Got the link setup on this end. Says it is working on connecting...but then refuses the connection at the above address. Got any suggestions about being able to connect?

Unfortunately...will be at work from 7 AM-4 PM tomorrow...so will be late in the day before I can see the message.

Probably a good option for me, considering my time constraints and the fact that I haven't been able to dedicate much time to advancing Vger along much further (This too, shall pass).

We're so lucky in this day and age to be SysOps.... In the olden days, I
would be pulling the door closed to head on out for a camping trip and those old DOS machines running on a Lantastic and DESQview/X environment could hardly wait to hear the latch click before crashing hard...
