I upgraded from A39 recently and had this same problem. To fix it, I
went into the user editor and reset/recreated my password and was able
to log back in again. I seem to recall someone else having to do that,

Everyone who is using pre-alphas that are before Dec 16 version should go upgrade to them and re-run the users.dat through (it will be discussed in the whatsnew).

The very early releases were people finding prealphas hitting the FTP when I was testing my new build scripts so that didn't have the password upgrade
done yet. Then the later ones it wasn't copying over the new upgraded
database - it was updating it properly it just didn't copy it...

So now things should be in a good place with passwords as of the last
pre-alpha I just uploaded in the past hour or so.

When logging into a Synchronet BBS as the sysop, you need to supply the 'system password' in addition to the password for your user account. The system password prompt comes immediately after the user's password is entered correctly. (This can vary from one system to another depending on customizations to the login process.)

A decent amount of the older BBS software has this as well. I know my TG

If you login to your Synchronet BBS or your WQWIV BBS as the sysop it asks
    for your system password

    LOGIN :: USER
    PWD: PASSWORD
    SYSTEM: Password

I run both and when I login as the sysop it asks me for the second password. If you have SyncTerm handy open up on and you will see where you can store
your system password. So when I press Alt-L it not only sends in my user
name and user password but also sends the system password.

It is only for convenience not nothing I couldn't live without.

I think he's after something for telnet that will send:

    username\r\n
    password\r\n
    system password\r\n

Or maybe something that sends the system password (after detecting a prompt?) upon connecting via RLOGIN or SSH. Beats me; I always use SSH and typing in the syspass isn't a hardship.

Yep I understand. You can set up the F keys to send whatever you want in NetRunner already. Or you could write a script, whatever works. My feelings are that most people aren't going to have a lot of systems where they need to enter a sysop password on login, so the existing macro system should be fine.

Already setup the F key to send my system password. My fingers are severly number and it takes me forever to type in the password without making an
error which my fat diabetic fingers do.

So problem solved CTRL-F2 does the trick

Finally took a little time and fixed up my builds scripts for NetRunner.

I've just uploaded new builds into the prealpha folder for Linux and Windows using the new scripts.

Still a lot of work to do to get it to where I want it to be. I've neglected the crap out of NetRunner the past couple of years!

I added that stuff a couple of years ago I just never made a new release officially. You can download the Windows versions here:

    http://www.mysticbbs.com/downloads/prealpha/

Those versions have SSH and RLogin in them!

If you are interested in the Linux versions or macOS let me know and I can
try to put them there too. There used to be Linux versions too but I accidentally deleted them from the site.

Very interested in the Linux versions of NetRunner w/ SSH. I think that is
the only thing keeping me on Syncterm.

I'd try out the MAC version if you make it :)

I am dying to get my hands on a copy of NetRunner that works on macOS.

I thought g00r00 could not continue development of it for macOS because he doesn't have a Mac, or at least that's what the news on mysticbbs.com says...
