• CNN DEBATE: Cruz vs. Sanders on Obamacare tonight at 9 p.m. ET

    From CNN Breaking News@VERT to no-reply@siteservices.cnn.com on Tue Feb 7 22:35:49 2017
Under President Donald Trump, the Republican Party is gearing up to overhaul Obamacare -- the sweeping health care law enacted in 2010 that covers some 20 million Americans.

At a special CNN town hall debate Tuesday night[1], two senators with diametrically opposed views of the government's role in health care -- Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders -- will face off and field questions from Americans about the future of the country's health care system.

Watch the debate, moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, on CNN at 9 p.m. ET.[2]

Democrats argue the program has made health insurance more affordable. Republicans say Obamacare has destroyed the US health care system.

Which is true? It depends. The sweeping health reform law contains numerous trade-offs. Here's what you need to know about the issues.[3]

Meanwhile, members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus said they're developing their own legislation[4] to repeal and replace Obamacare and plan to unveil it as early as next week.

At the White House, staffers on Trump's legislative affairs team have been working to manage the President's expectations[5] about the time the complicated process of replacing Obamacare will take. It appears to have contributed to a change in Trump's language, according to a senior administration official. Trump now suggests a new health care plan may roll out in 2018.

I've heard nothing good about it. I know people who have tried to get ObamaCare and they said its too high for them. I know personnally my insurance premiums have quadrupled with Obamacare, my copays have trippled, my deductibles are through the roof. Anytime we try to use the insurance we have to go through the third degree with the insurance company who wants to argue every single claim.

My company even has trouble finding insurance companies who will provide us coverage at rates that are affordable to them. Its cheaper for small businesses to pay the penalties for not providing insurance coverage than it is to provide coverage for their employees.

They said they had to pass it before they could read it and understand it. They timed everything so that all the effects wouldn't kick in until just after the 2016 election. I don't need fake news to tell me whats going on because I live it every day. I make about the same income I made 8 years ago but bring home about half of what I used to. That "change" sure didn't work out for me...

The *cheapest* I could ever find as a single male is around 4-500 dollars monthly.. wtf is cheap about that? and then they want to penalize me 4-800 a year for being un-insured.. and I have'nt visited a Doctor or Hospital in close to 10 years (other than one of these funded doctors who charge by your financual situation) and that lady tried to get me hooked on pain pills again..

I told her I did'nt want her pills, I wanted a FIX, or at least something more permanent and not another addiction. she said, well I cannot help with that, you will need to see a specialist, One that the "Affordable Care Act" would'nt have covered in the first place.

Exactly, all they are is legal dope pushers anyway. Doctors get you hooked on crap, and get kick backs from big pharma to do it. hey yeah, a lot of medicines out there are very helpful, and some people cannot live without them. But there are also many natural medicines that grow on the earth that have either been made illegal, or pretty much shunned as dangerous or innefective by scientists (who work for big pharma). It's a damn shame, and these idiots should stand trial for what amounts to mass murder. all for the illusionary dollar.

Why? 26 maybe a little too long but I wouldn't have a problem with 23 as most are still going to school then. You have to remember, thanks to Bush43, the ecomony took a nosedive and this was a way of helping people who couldn't afford insurance to get on something to get tham out of the ER's where they were paying nothing and the public foot the bill. I fail to understand why that can't be understood. Even if half only went to the ER without the ACA, average ER bill is what... around $3,500 or so? that's one average $35 billion per year out of the budget.

more? Shall I continue? If it's so bad then why ahve the GOP had 8 years to whip up a plan of their own? Are they lazy..?? Or does incompetence have

Really?? as they say in Brooklyn.. wtf is it?? Oh I know, let the insurance companies just have their way. Wonder if you knew during the Bush43 years, premiums were going up at a rate of 52% per year. After the ACA, thet dropped to 45%. Not great, but I agree, the ACA didn't get the insurance companies out of the for-profit business. Why does healthcare work in Canada?

first off, college isnt really that good of a path for some people. it's best to get into a trade in a lot of cases. a college education doesnt really mean someone will be successful. also factor in that some kids pick subjects of study that are useless.

if they are going to college 'full time', they can still get a job that has benefits. i did it.

maybe instead they should have done a reduced rate for people that have proof they are in college. just letting an adult live off of their parent's insurance until 26 years old seems stupid to me. it's like an ugly hack when something better could be in place.

So what you're saying it's not the ACA fault but the Pharma/Medical/Insurance greed?

IMHO, it is both. My (possibly incorrect) understanding is that in the countries that have socialized medicine, the "national health" administers the care. There really is no health insurance beyond the fact that the national health is there and you can use it.

Here, the government set up the ACA and made sure those other "greedy" groups were still involved. That does not fix anything.

Bush43 wasn't perfect, but the actions that put the economy onto unstable footing started under Clinton42. The government programs that were put into place to allow everyone an opportunity to own a house, without proper
controls to stop crooked lenders, went into effect in the 1990's.

The crooked lenders did not just become crooked the moment Bush43 put his
hand on the Bible in January, 2001. Many seeds were alredy sown long before then. For example, in this area, prices started skyrocketing well over what houses were worth during, or before, the Summer of 1999. I remember that
well because I could not figure why on Earth comp houses in my neighborhood were suddenly listing, and even selling, for 2/3rds more than what I gave for mine only 2 years prior.

So did I, but times have changed. If the parents are paying for the addition of their child till he 26, what is the difference? They were paying additional before he reached 18. If the child was free, then you'd have a point.

administers the care. There really is no health insurance beyond the
fact that the national health is there and you can use it.

Here, the government set up the ACA and made sure those other "greedy" groups were still involved. That does not fix anything.

Totally agree.... that's why I'm for single payer as it should have been from the beginning but... as usual, the lobbyists get in the way so for-profit insurance companies get their piece of the pie. Who gets screwed... I'm sure you already know. BTW, Bush43's Plan B... just an absolute success... :/

Why? 26 maybe a little too long but I wouldn't have a problem with 23
as most are still going to school then. You have to remember, thanks
to Bush43, the ecomony took a nosedive and this was a way of helping

Bush43 wasn't perfect, but the actions that put the economy onto
unstable footing started under Clinton42. The government programs that were put into place to allow everyone an opportunity to own a house, without proper controls to stop crooked lenders, went into effect in
    the 1990's.

And they started well before Clinton and the repeal of Glass- Steagall. From Reagan on, the banks and lawmakers steadily chipped away at the teeth of the law allowing the banks to take advantage of loopholes and engaging in the kinds of activities Glass-Steagall was intended to stop even though the law was still on the books, till it was actually useless in 1999 when Gramm-Leach-Bliley was signed. Bush43 added to the colapse with his tax cuts and the addition of Plan D at the time. Bye-bye budget. Plan D had it's good points... but was left to the insurance companies to administer through Medicare. Fiasco in the making

The crooked lenders did not just become crooked the moment Bush43 put
his hand on the Bible in January, 2001. Many seeds were alredy sown
long before then. For example, in this area, prices started
skyrocketing well over what houses were worth during, or before, the Summer of 1999. I remember that well because I could not figure why on Earth comp houses in my neighborhood were suddenly listing, and even selling, for 2/3rds more than what I gave for mine only 2 years prior.

As explained above.... bubbles have a way of getting out of hand when you let any banks control themselves. That's why Dodd-Franks was re-introduced to try and put a lid on the banks. Guess what though, everything that limited the banks from allowing it to happen again is getting ripped apart... with the blessing of the new administration. It's always the financial institutions that seem to have the last word. I'm taking dibs on Times Square as my area for selling apples...

the greedy ones use our health as a bargaining chip and a commodity. The insurance companies are the biggest offender. Who really needs them? We all know that we will get older and need medical attention. It's not like
drivers' insurance where you could go a whole lifetime without ever once needing insurance.

Either way you seem to be tunnel-visioned into those children magically getting insurance for free. They're not. Premiums are much higher for a family with children that that of just a married couple. So don't worry, it's not coming out of yoiur pocket.

first off, college isnt really that good of a path for some people.
it's best to get into a trade in a lot of cases. a college education doesnt really mean someone will be successful. also factor in that
some kids pick subjects of study that are useless.

While it may not be a good path for some people, it is for others.

if they are going to college 'full time', they can still get a job

And look at you now, making out like a bandit aren't ya? Maybe that's not the right path for everyone.

If they had any kind of decent plan that would actually work, it

I'd be more interested in knowing the parts that 'didn't hurt anybody' that he's talking about. The preexisting conditions part is one that hurts millions of people.

That was the point of my statement. Nothing has been done in Congress affecting the ACA. Lots of talk but they know if they touch it, they own it and all those 20 million people on it who may not have voted, guess what.

You forget that the ACA was just a repackaged plan put forth by Bob Dole and utilized by Mitt Romney for his state when he was governor.

not exactly. and if you didnt like it you could always leave the state.
I haven't forgetten that at all.... mro apparently has. If it was good enough for the GOP when much smarter men were running their party, then why does it suck now?

    it's not the same thing.

well there's a lot of people that couldnt AFFORD the affordable care act.
i heard they were going to waive the stupid penalty for not having it, but not sure if they did that and dont feel like doing a web search on it.

well come on now. we havent even had a new president for that long.

anyways, ACA is a mess and needs to go. there's a few parts that should be kept, but it's a terrible mess.

well come on now. we havent even had a new president for that long.

Your savior's house is crumbling. Miller yesterday doing the press rounds sounds like a gestapo agent, Flynn fell on his sword tonight trying to cover up, what was quite obvious, the secret bromance between Trump and Putin. Der Gropenfuhrer threw Pence under the bus by saying he trusted everything Flynn told him and sent him out on the press rounds but I am guessing Pence knew it was bullshit as well. The House of Cards is falling fast... and Putin knows it. Three weeks and Putin drops the bombshell. Be prepared for an unprecedented 2nd election as the one in November will be voided on all levels due to major improprioties by the GOP. Der Gropenfuhrer and Putin's attempt at undermining the US will be the turning poing in America. Wonder when the last time an elected President was shot for treason?

anyways, ACA is a mess and needs to go. there's a few parts that

Better not hold your breath... it's not going anywhere. lol!!

That you may be right one. I do remember an EO over that, but he signed so many of the samn things it's tough to keep up. Still, Congress has yet to act on it.

I had heard a statement form a senator (or congressman) who had voted to
strike the pre-existing conditions, because he 'had no sympathy for anybody
who waited until they were sick before they got insurance'. That just shows
me that he is more concerned with the insurance companies than he is with his constituents.

Nothing... because that what a vacuum is... nothing.

And the insurance companies will swoop in to fill the vacuum.
