• Shotgun Advice Pls

From Tck@VERT/BUNGEE to All on Wed Nov 2 00:09:00 2011
    Hi ALL,

Im looking for some advice on Shotguns.

A few weeks ago I was accepted to a local gun club for Clay Shooting.
I went out with a friend who has been shooting for years & is built like a brick out house :)

I however am 5'7 very skinny & about 11 stone, so you can imagine how my first few shots were like, I landed about 4 feet on my back-side!.

I was shooting an up & over 12 Bore...

I have been told by a few people that I should be looking for a automatic shotgun.

    Any ideas

    TcK

Well, if you were having trouble with a 12 gauge single-action, I doubt very much that you want an "automatic" shotgun. Perhaps you are being told to get a semi-automatic? In any case, someone of your stature would do better with a shorter weapon, perhaps in a smaller gauge (bigger number), such as a 16- or 20-gauge or .410, and around 18 or 20 inches in barrel length. Semi-automatics are fun to shoot, to be sure, but you'll do better as far as control with a pump- or bolt-action weapon. The shorter length will make a huge difference in handling.

... Heisenberg may have slept here.

    Hi Ronnyquest,

    Thanks for the advice.
I have also been looking at the .410 & 16 Guage however the ammo seems to massivly more expensive!

    Is this normal?

    Hi TcK --

I picked up a 20Ga A. H. Fox side by side not to long ago very inexpensively from gunbroker.com, it's a great place to shop around and find some nice weapons. You did say stone so not sure how it works across the pond but you'd need someone to do the transfer. You will find anything you could dream of there. Anyway, 20Ga would be a nice starter and wouldn't knock you on your butt. I purchased Remington gun club shells and they weren't to pricey.

Automatic shotgun, yeah I'd start with a side by side or over under myself.
