i dont think we need gun control. i think we need increased awareness and increased acivity in regards to identifying these types of people.

most of the time there are warnings and someone doesnt care enough to report it.

My thought about gun control are the same now as they were before this latest incident. The only way to stop a badguy with a gun is with a goodguy with a gun. This latest thing was bad, it was senseless, it was all those things,
and my heart goes out to the family & loved ones of those that didn't survive this lunatics shooting. But it doesn't change anything.

If you use the logic that because of the number of murders commited with firearms, we need to make firearms illegal, then using that same logic, then cars need to be outlawed, just look at how many people are killed each year with cars!

Besides, there are already so many gun laws on the books that are not being enforced, do we really need more? I don't think so.

I say that given the fact that these mass shootings all seem to occur in the states with the strictest gun laws there must be a correlation between gun
laws and mass shootings. Perhaps is the inavailability of guns to the law abiding citizen that creates an environment wherein the mass murderer feels emboldened...

More people are killed because of cell phone use while driving... maybe we should outlaw cell phones and cars?

Honestly, I don't mind the idea of having to get a license to own a firearm,
as long as the requirements for licensure are reasonable, and relatively
easy. Also, would prefer that training be offered to H.S. students, much

I'm relatively against restricting gun ownership in general, though I'm

Looks like it' 7 states[1] now... Gun carry requires a permit/license in
most states. I was refering to loaded, open, unlicensed carry being legal in AZ. I guess some of the terms are watery and overlap.

Agreed, it does seem weird that TX is one of the most restrictive states.

my uncle told me this when i was 10: do not pull a gun on someone unless you are going to use it.

You'd think so, but no, assault knives are perfectly legal to sell and have up on your wall. As far as carrying a knife in public, it has to be a folding but not lockable blade of no more than 3 inches in length, unless you have 'good reason' to be carrying it - i.e. to and from work where you legitimately use it etc.

My post was actually a joke based on the "assuault weapon" bans in the USA.

Anyway, the laws you've outlined sound a lot like the ones I've found here in California.

In Canada, the law is a lot simpler and leaves a lot more up to the officer. Basically, it's illegal to carry a weapon in Canada (this includes "for defence"). Carrying a knife (other than prohibited ones that have "a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife") is perfectly legal as long as it is not a weapon... and here's where it gets tricky to argue your "rights" since a weapon is defined as:

...any thing used, designed to be used or intended for use
    (a) in causing death or injury to any person, or
    (b) for the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person and, without restricting the foregoing, includes a firearm.

I'm choking on my wine on this one. Could imagine the debates in congress!

Ban a 4 inch folding assault knife as a weapon of mass destruction and allow a 10 inch chef's knife to pass.

When you say open carry, are you talking about rifles/shotguns, or handguns? last I checked there are only a handful of states where you can carry a handgun either open, or concealed without a permit of any kind. It's generally called Consitutional Carry. Many states, such as Florida that have licenses for concealed
carry do NOT allow for open carry. I have a FL CCW (gun permit), but if I have a
handgun on me that's exposed, I can get in trouble (anywhere from a warning to a
ride to jail depending on the cop) for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for not needing a permit to be able to carry a handgun, either concealed, or exposed if

you're of legal age, with a clean record. In fact my feeling is that the second
amendment has been infringed since the GCA of 1934! But that's another story.

The numbers I've cited are verifiable. 31 states where open carry of
handguns is permitted without need for a permit, 13 where a permit is
required for open carry. A handful where open carry is prohibited under
any circumstances. What you refer to regarding Constitutional Carry the ability to legally carry concealed and/or open with no permit required, and
I believe we are now up to seven states with Constitutional (or permitless) carry. While the numbers are subject to change, it's pretty clear that if
I'm off on my numbers, it's not by very much.
