You may be wrongly applying that argument on Mark and Nick as
    they are both developers.

Where we can look at their contribution? git clone what?

Regardless, if it wasn't for xxCarol being involved no work
    would ever get done.

Some people are braking the progress...
As for Carol, she's not a brake - she's an anchor. As well as Mark.

    "T" meaning what here?

Anyway, this is what I was trying to point out: Two questions, one answer. The answer could apply to both or any of the questions. So without any further comment the logical thing to assume (not only) for me would be (in that order): 1. the answer is for both questions
    2. the answer is for the last question
    3. the answer is for the first question
    4. the answer has nothing to do with the questions at all

What do you expect the person you gave the answer to do next if not
running a git clone command on said URL?

maybe try different methods of accessing the given URL? it isn't like anyone should need any hand holding...

Yeah, one possibility. OTOH, what's wrong about saying what one already did try
and understood, and asking back for clarification? Even if the website and browser access is there, a clonable repository might have been preferrable for the original poster, so the next question would be if that repo is there at all, anyway.

After all, this is probably not so much about hand holding but rather asking how much of whose time to burn: <n> people receiving an unclear answer and not knowing what it should exactly mean (maybe leading them all to try various things to find out), or 1 person who gave an unclear answer to several people (just by making things more clear with one more sentence).
However, I have to decide this kind of thing in my job multiple times each day,
so maybe I'm subject to a bit of bias in situations like this.

No criticism from my side at all here (if you don't run a repo, that's all fine). I just say that it is quite obvious why this conversation derailed, asking back for clarification should not be frowned upon.

The conversation derailed because the person lazily copying-n-pasting Linux terminal output wanted to be Captain Obvious for the day, instead of using a web browser like the rest of us with a basic amount of common sense.

That's just your interpretation which is -as I already pointed out- not necessarily true (and even if it is, your reaction is imho not ideal).

Which one? I think there were (potentially) several, but none of them was really compellent. In any case, I'd like to see either more humour or more patience from someone running for FTSC.

"always"? I see that particular combination of acronym letters for the very first time, I think (or I'm getting forgetful). Yes, it would probably have been google-solvable, but in a conversation like this, I prefer to ask.

I get the pun, but I don't know the song. Even Google doesn't appear to know it... or "You can't always get what what you want" by the Rolling Stones is just way too popular.

Uh, well, it's maybe the thing my parents liked when they were young. Not considered quite that cool when I was at the age where you decide what kind of music you like. So, I guess the Stones just don't matter to me at all.
