Hey folks.. been awhile since I've posted in here.. but i have this crazy
idea for a project in mind but I can't find a good FTN processor.. I tried Crashmail II but it corrupts the JAM bases and the BBS cannot read them ..

I saw something about FMail for Linux but I haven't found any links .. and
the Husky project is nothing but a huge headache to me lol

Husky can be a PITA at first but once it is setup works well.

If you have questions about husky I might be able to help.

Lookup fidoip on Sourceforge. It sort of simplifies things.

The above mentioned fidoip uses Husky. FMail looks like it's Windoze only at them moment. I'll keep an eye out for any other ftn tossers.

Mystic runs on Linux, so you may wish to look at MUTIL :)

Yes, Wilfred has been maintaining/developing FMail for a while now. I have seen
PIDs (or maybe it was tear lines) of FMail/Linux but I don't know much about it.

You need to copy (and edit) the huskymak.cfg in the huskybse package and place it in the root of your husky directory below the hpt etc directory. If your libs are in lib64 change LIBDIR=$PREFIX/lib to LIBDIR=$PREFIX/lib64.

I also find the order you build stuff is important, start with huskylib, smapi and fidoconf and do areafix before hpt (if you use hpt). From there you can build whatever you need. sqpack works on jam as well as squish bases.. nltools if you want nodelist utilities, msged for a msg editor. msged will take some fixing to work. htick if you want tic support and the tosser hpt.

There's a bunch of other stuff in there too, some of it doesn't work anymore and isn't really needed anyway.

For a list, look at the JAM Message Base Format section of Wikipedia (I can't paste the link). Among others, the list includes fastecho and gecho. You can try either or both of them. Also, for filefixing, allfix should do the job as well.

I'm just suggesting using the combo of Mystic and MUTIL to do the config of message JAM bases and tossing respectively. Once running you could point your software of choice to the JAM bases to read and post to, then call MUTIL to toss stuff in/out ... BinkD could pick up the packets etc. or another
mailer of your choice etc... so the extent of Mystic help would not be very great if you wanted that ... anyways just some thoughts..as MUTIL is a good
up to date tosser that is cross platform.

My bad... Theoretically you could use dosemu to run any of them. lol! Joking aside, you could also take Avon's advice and use mystic/mutil to make the message bases and toss messages to them, while pointing EleBBS at the files. It's kind of what I like to call Southern Engineered, but it'd work since JAM is JAM.

Your options are going to be limited. I don't know if JAM is supported, but fidogate can be used as a tosser. Supposedly, the hpt from the husky project should work otherwise. *shrugs*

    1) dosemu is broken .. it crashes every time it tries to unzip a file with PKUNZIP ... go figure lol

I don't generally have that problem, but you could always try raising the amount of files and buffers you can open. Have you tried using a newer version of Freedos? Or maybe MS-DOS. DR-DOS, or the like? Also, have a look at
dosemu2 on github. It's a fork that's being actively developed. There are
ways to get around most crashes, you just have to look for them. :)

DOSEMU (or rather the kernel) doesn't support (I forget what it's called) memory usage anymore. Try "pkunzip -)" and see if it works.

Try switching to InfoZip's zip.exe and unzip.exe. They are available for DOS. They work fine here under dosemu.

I appreciate all the feedback on this topic, but I do not wish to pursue any

If it helps, I'm writing one - my plan is to toss mail into a database, which will be zone agnostic. I kinda of covered this a little while ago, with the cockroachdb discussion.

That said, its stalled a bit. I have cockroach running over 3 hosts, and I
have the packet parsing, but I just need to now do the DB inserts. Then, the
DB exports to feed my BBS (and potentially other nodes).

Just katching up ... I had the similar issue - it ended up months later I found
it was not just PKUNZIP that was having an issue - it was any binary in a certain path. Some how the host folder became rw-rw-rw- no support execute. Which flowed all the way up to DOSEMU's binaries in that folder. I assume I had
done this - but not sure how or why...
