TCPd is kind of a winner... its installed and working so thats a plus. I have it running my old "bbs.sh" script which still calls a telnet client to get to the BBS proper....If there was some way to proxy/relay instead of using the telnet client it might be a bit quicker... but it certainly got rid of the extra login prompt.

It has done something weird to some of the doors though, a few keep getting unknown key hits, when you're meant to be waiting for some event before
hitting a key. Thats new and seems to have come with TCPd... convenience vs foible :)

I had a crack at using tcpd. While it gets past the login prompt on the
initial telnet connection it does something strange to the telnet stream. A
lot of "ANSI" stuff seems to come out broken, and everything seemed to need
an enter after it to get it to send. Odd...

    That is odd.

I was also thinking that perhaps haproxy would better suite your needs - it would save you from needing your bash script, and connect the incoming TCP stream to RLFOSSIL directly. In theory it shouldnt mess with the stream.

I havent used haproxy before, but I think it can keep track of "who is alive" at the backend, so if something is busy, it will auto failover to the next victim.
