I've noticed it has been a bit slow. I also haven't been as active on here, as I threw my lower back out. I can only sit in the computer chair for short amounts of time... Kinda sucks...

Ouch, how did you do it? Was it a TO-DO item for the significant other?
That's something that happened to me.

That's understandable. I've been slowly working on a couple of projects here. They are BBS related, but I don't want to say too much about them yet. I'd at least like to have a working version... I am getting closer though! :)

    Will it blend?

I've also been considering, again, changing my programming language of choice from Pascal to C. Part of me is saying that I should, because C
is still actively being developed, but I also don't want to lose everything that I've got written already. I guess I could convert it
over to C as well... Sorry, just rambling here... :)

I'm still learning about types of data you can store in Python.. but I guess that's something :)

No, it was my TO-DO list from at work... I'm not suppose to be doing physical work, I'm management! ;)

I'll never fit in. I've got a broken blender... :)

Variable types... string, integer, char, etc... If I'm remembering correctly, Python doesn't require you to declare a variable type, does it?

Once you get into the fun stuff, and writing your own programs, you'll have a lot of fun! :)

Correct you can just state it, and it seems depending on how you use [ ] or ( ) etc. can determine the type of array you want to create also.

True, and this has been happening for a very long time on BBSes. As long as there has been message bases, there has been a wide array of discussion.

The nice thing I think for 2019 is that you don't need 100+ echo areas to do
it in. I've found (so far) less is more with respect to fsxNet chatter.

I agree, it's really nice to let my imagination run with features and things. I can think of the features, and even how they'd work, but it seems I lack the programming skills to actually implement any of them. I also like the idea of encrypted communications. There's a certain amount of safety with encrypting things like chat and messaging, especially for those in oppressive countries or with overreaching spy networks.

I think we're similar. I can often think of a bunch of nice to have stuff or enjoy putting disparate systems together in ways not thought of to achieve
some wild idea. I also lack the coding skills but as time and mental energies permit I am trying to slowly learn some :)

Yes encryption to ensure the integrity of communication and privacy from big brother snooping I think is a good thing. I accept that terrorism and
planning of such acts etc. can also hide in the security such systems afford also. But I'm not that swayed by arguments of nation states that suggest
back door unfettered access to decode and intercept what might otherwise be considered to be secure comms in the name of fighting terrorists is the right thing.

Keeping things simple (aka BBS text interfaces and simple echo chats like
this) combined with current best practices in secure networking approaches
that combine resilient mesh networking, encryption of text, SSH etc. I think are good to explore and develop in these days of mass social media data aggregation and state sponsored surveillance.

Not sure if you have been keeping abreast of the reports of technology being deployed by China for surveillance of its citizens, it's feels truly
Orwellian. Social scores that may limit a persons ability to travel, earn wages, engage with others... all automated and based on AI, facial
    recognition, etc. Not good IMHO.

I have to agree with that! Just a few echo's seem necessary. FN comes from a time where everyone wanted a specialized echo because there really weren't other mediums to fill the gaps. That's why it's so big.

I think we're similar. I can often think of a bunch of nice to have
stuff or enjoy putting disparate systems together in ways not thought of to achieve some wild idea. I also lack the coding skills but as time and mental energies permit I am trying to slowly learn some :)

We are similar in that manner. Being a bit older now, my learning capacity isn't what it used to be, and neither is my attention span. lol! But yes,
like you, I'm also slowly learning the craft of coding. :)

We're in agreement. I don't believe that anyone should have a free
access backdoor to encrypted communications. That gets into some pretty heavy personal privacy concerns. Terrorism happened long before the world was networked together through the Internet. If they want it to happen, it will happen.

Keeping things simple (aka BBS text interfaces and simple echo chats like this) combined with current best practices in secure networking
approaches that combine resilient mesh networking, encryption of text,

That's a good thing! I don't want big brother snooping. I have nothing to
hide, but what I have is none of their business.

I've kept up some. The Chinese are a smart lot though. Someone figured out
that old style terminal BBSes are much, much harder for their government to invade and censor. That's the reason why there are so many custom Chinese language BBSes on github, and why they're so huge over there. Oppression is never good, and even more so using Orwell as a guide. Funny that, using old school tech to help beat the new tech. :)

I've spent most of my Saturday working on my wife's to-do list but just playing on the BBS now, it's coming up 3.36pm local time, we moved to daylight saving last weekend... it's still cold but a few warmer days and blossoms now.

I'll be working on the 'honey-do' list tomorrow... It's just after 9:30pm on Friday night, and my eyelids are getting heavy. Our daylight savings doesn't start until 3 November. I could use it now, for the extra hour of sleep. :)

Yeah figured you would be full on with the job, glad you're able to take
a break from it though :)

Spent the week getting out of bed at 5am, to be at work by 6:30. By the time
I would get home, I'd grab something to eat and feel like I'm ready for
bed... It's a good feeling though. It sure beats not being able to get to
    sleep until 4am.

This working though, is really cutting into my computer time. ;)

Saturday for me was sports day. Volunteered at Parkrun as the timekeeper. In the afternoon, I had the first official track meet for the season (last week was pre season). Ran the 100m, and did shot put, javelin and long jump. Also ran in the 4x100m relay, which went rather pear shaped. :/

Urk, that would do my head in. I'm partiularly susceptible to burnout.

It's just after 1pm on Saturday here, and we just got home from helping some good friends move. Everything heavy needed to go upstairs, so now I'm sore,
and in need of my chiropractor...

It also reminded me why we don't live in a 2 story house... :)

Well, if it were for an extended period of time, I would get burnt out, but
the overtime 'should' be done by Monday or Tuesday... I hope... :)

Had a good 100m and long jump, shot put was reasonable too. Javelin was a little ordinary, and the 4x100 relay was a disaster.
