I'm having a play with Synchronet on the pi but the display of the config
util looks like it's set to the wrong code page, just like mystic when set to utf-8...

I've tried starting it with ./scfg -iF which gets close but it still looks
like garbage... makes it visually hard to get through it all..

Any ideas from the Sbbs pros?

It could be your terminal is utf-8 but Synchronet is CP437?

That is what I see also on the terminal. If I log into the BBS with SyncTERM from an X session everything likes good as always.

I'm not sure of the best way forward for all that.

I just went into scfg and it looks good here, along with echocfg.. nice and clean.

I do see what you are describing when looking at what I think is ANSi created in CP437 (unless I'm using SyncTERM in an X session, then the same screen looks
    good).

I wonder what font your terminal is using?

You could try ./scfg -iD. Not as pleasing to the eye but should be usable just about anywhere.

Is this on the local machine, or through a term like putty? I remote into my sync bbs and do the work in either putty or a linux terminal, and set the codepage as needed. Also, are you using Xorg or just a straight terminal
    login?

can you post a screen capture?
are you connected via ssh o or console/hdmi output?

It was through putty but it works fine on the local machine so I'll just use
it there (was hoping to avoid but doesn't really matter).. cheers :)

In putty, under Translation, you should set that to CP437. That's what fixed
    it for me.

Never had an issue. I SSH in and run scfg remotely, looks fine. I've never had to jump through any hoops to get it to display properly.

I have to say I don't like Synchronet very much... I don't like the
continuous mail reader... I like to see a list and choose which messages I
want to view.. It's a bit odd.

I think there is an add on which allows you to do that.

You can use the T and L keys when reading messages to get a list of messages. There are a lot of commands at your fingertips in synchronet.

I think at one time I found it odd too.. now it's second nature to me.

I just use offline mail. I've always preferred the offline interfaces myself.

There are many other commands, too. See the '?' prompt at the bottom?
