    Howdy,

I've written a long ansi file for the preuser.ans file for a mystic bbs
i'm mucking around with but for some reason it just displays the last 40 lines.. i'm trying to get it to scroll from the top of the ansi so it
    displays it all.

is there something special i need to do to the .ans file to get it to
    scroll slowly?

    cheers.

No you don't have to do anything special. Are you sure its just not
displaying so fast you only see the last bit?

This is not my area of expertise but you can add special MCI codes for some
    of this stuff..

    [snip]

    A.8 Miscellaneous Unsorted Codes
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

AO - Used in display files to disable aborting of the display file
BE - Sends a ^G character to the terminal (beep code on some terms)
DE - Delay for half a second
PA - Send the pause prompt and wait for a key to be pressed
PB - Purge the current input buffer
    PI - Display a pipe symbol (|)
PN - Wait for a key to be pressed without prompting
PO - Used in display files to disable pausing for that display file
QO - Replaced with a randomly generated Quote of the Day
RP## - Sets the internal screen pause line counter to ##
    XX - Returns no value

    DF<file>| - Send display file <file> Example: |DFmyansi|

DI## - Sets the baud rate of the current display file, using the
    following scale:

    00 - = No baud emulation
    01 - 09 = 300 baud
    10 - 19 = 1200 baud
    20 - 29 = 2400 baud
    30 - 39 = 4800 baud
    40 - 49 = 9600 baud
    50 - 59 = 19200 baud
    60 - 69 = 28800 baud
    70 - 79 = 38460 baud
    80 - 89 = 57600 baud
    90 - 99 = 115200 baud

    [snip]

So a pipe followed by a code like PO then a pipe and the DI code perhaps?

Others will know more than I but that's my 2 cents :)

    Best, Paul

Don't forget you can specify the baud rate at which Mystic displays the file
in the data section by specifying @28800@none@longansi.ans for example. (i think that's the right syntax)

There's a couple ways to do it. I use menu commands and use
@19200@END@ansifile in the data section of the GD Display a file command. So first option is BAUD rate second option is TRUE/END/FALSE as to should it
pause during display (TRUE) not at all (FALSE) or at the end (END) and obviously the third option is the filename. Or as Avon clipped out for you,
you could display the file using pipe codes. (pipe)DFansifile (pipe)DIxx etc.

I would put in a link that explains how to slow it down using pipe codes, but the Mystic site is down at the moment. I put in a (pipe)DI50 at the beginning of my preuser ansi. I'm pretty sure that's what fixed it for me.

Thanks for those codes, they work fine in slowing down the ansi. Only
problem now that it's slow.... half the colours are blinking and the ansi
    is shifted left.

It looks horrid :( It looks fine in pablodraw and thedraw.. spinning up a
dos box to test in aciddraw...

Any ansi artists know why the colours could be binking ?

It could be you're using ICE colours (high intensity colours as
background) Normal ansi will show that as blinking, you don't want to use
high intensity colours as background unless you want your clients to need
    ice support.

When I saw His message I couldn't resist writing to Him.

I just remembered another one - I was reading about the Turbo Button
and the writer said pressing that button slows the CPU instead of
    speeding it up.

I just pressed the Turbo Button on my old, unused, 486 .
The Push-Button Switch was in the depressed position when I pressed on it,
and when I took my finger off the button I saw it was raised up a little
    bit higher.

Of course I pressed it a second time to return it to its usual setting.

What Do I know about these things???? ??
