Yeah I had to do something since I never use the GUI and was just a waste and when g00r00 compiled mystic back on free pascal 3.02 everything now works on the GUI-less ubuntu-server x64 along with even Debian x64 clean install's. =D

That's a good thing then isn't it. =D .. I was re-learning stuff within the last few years and finally was able to get things all working properly under
a non GUI/X which makes me very happy.

True. In my case, however, my Pi has a 64gb sd card and it only runs Mystic, so space isn't an issue.

And even though I never run the GUI on the Pi directly, I do remotely run GUI apps -- Nautilus to browse or copy files to/from the Pi; Midori to download files to the Pi; or Leafpad to edit files on the Pi.

I suppose I could install Raspbian headless, then just apt-get install Nautilus, et al, but I've never tried.

Why not just use samba and create shares you can copy to/from machine to machine, works for me and how I interact with the servers.

Why not just use samba and create shares

I often do. However, at times I simply find a GUI more convenient. I could
    open a terminal and type

    cd ~/Downloads/mystic
    mkdir mystic
    unzip -a myst112A42_pi.zip mystic/
    exit

Or I could just double-click the zip. Or right-click download a file link rather than opening a terminal to type out a wget command. So forth.

I'm the polar opposite. The fewer times I have to touch a mouse, the better.
I have keybinds on my linux desktops to open terminal sessions, tile the windows, and then I use things like tmux/vim and loathe anything GUI at all.

I guess my TZUTC has always been -0800 regardless of PST or PDT. I've set a TZUTC=-0700 now. If that works I'll have to find a way to make it stick, and remember to remove it when PST rolls around agian.

and Duck Duck Go said that there is a 3 hour difference between us. But my BBS
time elapsed since the message arrived is incorrect.

Yep, I think the problem is my PST vs PDT. If I'm not mistaken my TZUTC kludge should read -0700 during PDT, like now but it still shows -0800.

Just curious - does your system do time zone handling well? On my end
your message arrived in the future, as it believes your
    message time information is PST.

I'm not sure exactly. Does my message include a TZUTC kludge?

Hi Al... sorry, had to use a utility to find out all the data I could on the message. I see this:

    when_written Sat May 11 23:39:04 2019 UTC-8:00
    when_imported Sat May 11 23:41:10 2019 UTC-7:00

So I don't see a TZUTC kludge line, the only header line that is a Kludge line is:

    X-FTN-Kludge "CHARSET: LATIN-1"

But the timezone seems to be somewhere in the date information - not sure how Synchronet gets it in to it's format though.

I'm very confused now as when viewing the message it shows the time zone as "MST" (well, I guess that could be Mountain Standard),
but of course that's -0700 so the time is correct:

    when_written Wed May 15 13:32:22 2019 UTC-7:00
    when_imported Wed May 15 13:35:11 2019 UTC-7:00

Hey dudes, those of us that are looking at the "message quoting / line wrapping" stuff - can someone take a look at the .pkt which contains this original message? It looks all jank to me and it's SBBS. I would, but I don't have a BBS with FTN and am just logging in to someone else's board :)

A user or sysop of a Synchronet BBS could be using an external editor that could be the cause of that. Generaly speaking messages that originate on a SBBS
are well behaved as far as I know.

    MST

    correct.

Yeah, not sure then if Synchro does a reverse lookup on the time info to take a
guess at the zone, or if that's done elsewhere.
It's obviously a very minor thing - at least the timezone (and Synchro's 'how many hours ago was this message posted' bit) are
    correct now.

The TZUTC kludge in Synchronet must have been transposed into the above.

I'm guessing so - it seems to keep track of some of the Fido kludge lines in it's message bases, but must also process/transpose
other bits internally and remove the kludge. It all seems to work, so I guess it manages some of this appropriately when it tosses
    & imports.

Thanks for info. Yes that is the plan. I am still in the process of getting things setup. I'm trying to find a step by step example for setting up the fsxNet file base area right now. I'm sure it's very familiar to the message base setup. Which I had a good tutorial on that. I am just not finding alot of tutorials on Enigma. It's been so long since I ran a BBS, I have forgotten everything. I have noticed there are a few more examples, tutorials for Mystic, so I have been kinda using that as a ref and others. I'll get there, i'm just a bit slow these days. lol.

    Sounds great!

We're all a little slow these days. :-D

For me, it was roughly 25 years since I last setup a BBS. Add a different BBS software package and a different operating system to that and that took some time...

Yes, but if someone is coming in through 21:1/999, they probably were watching Avon's videos on YouTube, which predate the FSX_TST forum.

And the rules are fairly lax for the topics that end up here, regardless.

Especially for people just being introduced to FSX net.
