    Hi guys

I have hatched out v0.9.2 for Windows and the source code (thanks Apam!) for other OS to compile with.

This version fixes an issue whereby nodes that have not updated to the latest game id for an inter-bbs game could not be identified easily with the logging GD was generating. Apam has kindly fixed this with this release. It just
means I can identify node x and kindly ask them to update to game id xyz if need be (although it should be automatic) and avoid 300+ packets the Usenet+Games HUB at 21:1/10 can't toss or do anything with :(

So please update to this version over the coming 24-48 hours and I will also
do the same, sorry to say we will need to reset the game as the packet structures are different.

I will post when I have sent a reset out but won't do so for approx 24 hours.

    Hi all.

Still having issues with assorted nodes sending incorrect game packets as I can't seem to now issue league wide resets using the command switches :(

So I am manually changing the game to ID 20 and will send you a new BBS.CFG
for your GD directory to use.

Please reset at your end and let's see how we go.

Apam - when you're back on deck and able to have a look at the code that
would be good, I can't seem to run the /reset 20 switch and have just run the reset batch file locally at the HUB and at Agency. Dunno why things seems to have broken.

The reason I assumed 21 is because I run one of those three nodes and my BBS.CFG does say 20. It has since an earlier message asking that it be updated.

Games HUB has been updated. I will issue a league wide reset tonight my time, so in about 7-8 hours time. When I do the game ID will move to 25 (just so
you know) Hopefully systems will auto update and you won't need to manually change things. But I'll post again when I issue the reset and it's probably best we all check the BBS.CFG in the coming day or so to make certain it's sorted.

I'm suspicious there are a few nodes in the inter-bbs league that are just on auto and I have not had contact from some sysops. If probs persist with those nodes post reset I will be looking to remove them from the league if I cna't get any joy in getting their versions updated / contact with them etc.

    Hi all,

I'd like to run GD on my Magicka BBS but it doesn't have a publicly
accessible telnet/ssh/binkp address (it's just a point off my mystic bbs)

Is it possible to run GD and participate in the league or does my bbs

It's possible. You need to be able to poll the games/usenet HUB (21:1/10) to send/receive games packets. Ideally hourly as a lot of stuff flows through
    that system.

Howdy all you Galactic Dynastyers i've got GD installed and want to set
it up to be part of the league... is there some instructions on what settings to put in the .ini file etc?

    Hi there :)

Where does the bbs.cfg file come from?

    How does it all work?

There's an info file in the fsxNet infopack. I'll post it here for you (and others interested) If you do want me to add you let me know as I need to send out an updated BBS.CFG file to active nodes soon anyway. :)

    [snip]

Getting Connected - fsxNet Galactic Dynasty

    =============================================================================

Galactic Dynasty is an Inter-BBS game coded by the world famous Apam :)
There are a number of BBS connected to fsxNet and involved in the Zone 21 Inter-BBS league. If you would like to join here's what you need to do.

    1)

Download the latest version of the game from a fsxNet BBS that carries the FSX_DOOR file base echo.

The file you want to grab is either GDYNWIN.ZIP (Windows 32 bit version) or GDYNSRC.ZIP (Source) if you want to compile it for your Linux system

    2)

Contact Paul aka Avon at either avon@bbs.nz or 21:1/101 and ask for your
fsxNet node number to be set up at the fsxNet Games + Usenet Gateway (21:1/10)

    3)

Create a new echonode entry in your BBS config for 21:1/10@fsxnet

Use the settings below BUT - change ensure your 'Session Options'
    are as follows: agency.bbs.nz:24557

This address and port number may differ from the usual address and/or port
you connect to for your fsxNet HUB. However the Gateway runs on a different BinkP server to feed your BBS Games + Usenet News compared to your usual
fsxNet echomail / netmail traffic fed from a fsxNet HUB (21:1/100 or 21:2/100)

It's important to enable Filebox and to set the path to a directory you
will be using to send your game packets to the 21:1/10 HUB with.

    Description │ fsxNet Games + Usenet Zone │ 21
    Active │ Yes Net │ 1
    Archive Type │ ZIP Node │ 10
    Export Type │ Crash Point │ 0
AllFix PW │ Domain │ fsxnet
    PKT Password │
    Session Type │ BinkP
    Route Info │
    Max PKT Size │ 512
    Max ARC Size │ 2048
    Use FileBox │ Yes
    FileBox │ c:\mystic\filebox\fsxnet\
    TIC Password │ Session Options

    4)

Unzip and install the Galactic Dynasty files in to a directory you plan
to run the game from. Compile the Linux version as per the instructions contained in the .ZIP

** This walkthough assumes a Windows install but you can modify paths etc.
    as required **

    5)

Edit the galactic.ini file to add the specific details about your BBS, node number, etc. to it. This is the example from Agency BBS with comments

    [Main]
Turns Per Day = 20 <--- Set this to 20
Turns In Protection = 60 <--- Set this to 60
Log Path = c:\doors\galactic\logs <--- Set path for log files

    [Interbbs]
Enabled = true <--- Set to True or no Inter-BBS 4 u! System Name = Agency BBS <--- Your BBS name
    League Number = 21 <--- Set this to 21
    Node Number = 2 <--- Refer to BBS.CFG for your node #
File Inbox = c:\mystic\echomail\in <--- Points to your BBS inbound dir Default Outbox = c:\mystic\filebox\fsxnet <-- Outbound Filebox defined earlier

Note: The node number (4th line in Interbbs settings) is not your regular fsxNet node number. It's the number assigned to you by the League Coordinator and can be found in the BBS.CFG file that will be sent to you by the Coordinator once your node is set up at 21:1/10

    6)

Obtain an updated BBS.CFG file from the League Coordinator and place this
    file
in your Galactic Dynasty working directory.

    7)

Set up a menu option to run your game. Here's the example from Agency BBS

Display Text │ 1 - Galactic Dynasty (fsxNet)
    LightBar Low │ 1
    LightBar High │ 1
    Hot Key │ 1
    Access │ s20 Up │ 0 Escape │ 0 Display Type │ Access Down │ 0 Tab │ 0
    X Y │ 0 0 Left │ 0 PageUp │ 0
    Timer │ 0 Right │ 0 PageDn │ 0
    Timer Type │ Interval Redraw │ Yes Home │ 0 End │ 0 Command ────────────────── Access ───── Data ─────────────────────────────
    (D3) Exec DOOR32 program c:\doors\galatic\start.bat %P

The contents of start.bat looks like this

    c:
    cd\doors\galatic
    GalacticDynasty.exe -full -D %1door32.sys
    cd\mystic
    fidopoll 21:1/10
    goto done

    :done

    8)

Set up regular event to process incoming game packets from the 21:1/10
You may want to have a timed event to run this processing a few times
a day. Or you might like to have a batch file that runs each time
any packets etc. arrive in your inbound directory.

    e.g. galmaint.bat

    c:
    cd\doors\galatic
    GalacticDynasty.exe maintenance
    goto done

    :done

    9)

Review the Galactic Dynasty Readme file that ships with the game
files. It contains a good overview of the setup of the game and also
details of how to customise your score files if displaying them on
    your BBS.

    10)

Got further questions? Be sure to post them in fsxNet and someone
who is already running this game will be able to help you :)

Righto.. Fusion BBS joins the inter-bbs league as node 18 and I am sending
all active nodes in the league an updated BBS.CFG file to drop in to your GD directory please.

I'm going to also issue a reset in the coming hours that will move the game
id from 25 to 30 and (fingers crossed) that will work OK as it has before.
I'll probably wait until tomorrow morning my time to do that so give everyone
a chance to get stuff in place, but I'll post when the reset has been sent.

I don't know what happens now? How does my data make it to other nodes?
How does the game reset? Do I have to do it manually or does the game
take care of that? When a new game id comes out do I have to manually
update it or is that done automatically as well?

Seems I have 1,953 packets stuck in the inbound dir :(

Logs show it seems to be processing something but there's a issue with a node causing some probs.

Apam - do you think we could create a bad packets sub dir that GD could toss packets from the mailer inbound into just to clear them out if there are
    issues with them?

I suspect there's good and bad packets in there but also suspect after the number in the inbound rises to 20 or 30 then GD can't handle processing them all and borks? Just a guess.

But I am unsure if all the packets in the inbound are from this node or if
only so many are then the system is overwhelmed and can't process others?

Hopefully Apam can have a look into things.

So to clarify your getting packets and processing them in/out OK?

At the HUB I see some packets moved to a BAD directory but I also have
261 packets now seemingly stuck in my echomail\in directory also

I see you are running 0.9.4 but it hasn't been made available anywhere I can download it. It was in the Upload File Area on Agency but unavailable and
could not be found on The Fat Sandwich.

As soon as I can fetch it, I'll be able to install it.

It's be design. The version I am running at the HUB has a bad packet feature added to it in an attempt to mitigate the issues we're seeing. The underlying packet engine etc remains unchanged so it's inter-operable with the version
the rest of the net is using.

When we have a version we're ready to hatch out, I'll certainly let the group know :)

Centuries from now when anthropologists are studying the fall of the West, they'll trace it's beginnings to the issuing forth, in contravention of all standards of cultural decency, of the p-word from Down Under.

Hmm, the thought occurs that video might be a bit short, so maybe you could supplement it with other words, like "doo-doo", "crap" and even, if you're really feeling ornery, the t-word.

And to be sure we can all find the video, I suggest the title, "Mystic Guy

I had to update my BBS.cfg from GameID 30 to GameID 35

Currently, when I try to enter the game from the BBS, I get the following error,

"Sorry, the game is currently in use. Please try again later."

Another item that I noticed is that in the galactic.ini file, I specified a
lot file, but no entries have been appended there. Not sure if that is supposed to happen or not.

    This looks fine :)

Also just a note you can post with an alias or post with a real name in
fsxNet it's up to you. Only the nodelist entry we ask for real names. I tend
to send netmails to real names but even that can vary so long as you have
some sort of remapping set up in netmail for alias to real name and vise versa..

Anywhoo that's a long winded way of saying it's up to you :)

I often sign with my real name but post with my alias.. cause I can :) ha.

    Hi all.

If you're playing this game as a member of the inter-bbs league this is a
heads up that I will be hatching a new version out to all nodes linked to the FSX_DOORS file echo in the coming 24 hours.

Can I ask that all nodes please update to this version and post something
here when done. I will then issue a game reset so we all start off on the
    same page.

This new version creates new packets etc. so we must all be on the same new version for things to work for us.

OK - but I'll be a week or so before I can upgrade. (Away camping with the kids). You can put me hold if you can hold the packets until I get back...
    I'll poll when I've updated.

OK team the latest version from Apam is now out and I would ask everyone update to it. We will keep the same game id = 40 for now while we get folks moved over.

I am hoping that I have set things up appropriately in my galactic.ini and bbs.cfg files. However, haven't seen any examples for
the fsx league.. I wonder if anyone could post theirs, or I could post mine for
    corrections?

21:4/150 - Adam, I'm happy to add your system in and will set you up at the Games & Usenet HUB (21:1/10) so you can take part.

OK, great - do I need to have my mailer setup to connect directly to 1/10? Do we need to set any passwords up or anything?

For some reason your netmails to me sent via 4/100 have caused the HUB to lockup both times so something is amiss with what you are sending. I am unsure what. But just wanted to acknowledge I did get the messages in the end as Dan zipped up the packets and sent them to me when he found the blockage.

That's interesting - The only thing that I changed after the initial setup with
the hub was archiving the packets with Zip. I've
turned that off and tried a netmail to yourself and to Dan as well.

Things like areafix & filefix seemed to be working OK, as far as I could tell.

Perhaps we can debug things via a chat in this echo as others more familiar with the mail tosser / BBS software you are using would be able to help.

Sure... I think Dan is likely going to have to get involved if he's got logs about what occurred on his end? I shouldn't be able
to construct any kind of packet that could crash his hub.

The bbs.cfg file is sent out by Paul, but this is what it looks like:

    snip<=-

    GameID 40

    LinkNodeNumber 1
    LinkName fsxNet Games HUB

    LinkNodeNumber 2
    LinkName Agency BBS

    snip<=-

...etc etc... These are listed through node 21 as of the one I've got.

Sure... I think Dan is likely going to have to get involved if he's got logs about what occurred on his end? I shouldn't be able
to construct any kind of packet that could crash his hub.

That's part of the problem. The way that mutil is freezing when it tries to toss the .pkt file, it isn't logging anything... I'll see if I can look at
the files with a packet analyzer and see what I can find out.

Ah, ok, will have to wait for that then!

Are the Turns Per Day & Turns In Protection items that should be consistent across systems? Or does it matter?

Yes, they need to be the same as all of the other systems in the League. 20 turns per day and 60 turns of protection are the settings in use for the League.

That should be uniform across all nodes. I know that Andrew had a check in place at one time, to make sure everyone was running the same settings, but
I'm not sure if it's still in place.

Take a look, and see if your system is setting a packet password for netmail. The packets are showing:

    PKT password: <00H><00H><00H><00H><00H><00H><00H><00H>

I'm not sure if it's showing that because of no password being there, or if, somehow, a password of 00000000 is set somewhere...

I'm going to try to process these messages through a test system and see what happens...

Nevermind... I figured it out... :)

I didn't realize there was a line in the mailin.ini file, which routes
    netmail to Avon to 21:1/101@fsxnet.

There is a problem somewhere in mutil in which it doesn't like routing to another address. I've commented out that line, and processed the packets with no problems. :)

Paul, you should see those netmail messages on your system now.

Still having problems dealing with packets in the games hub inbound and seemingly not being processed and piling up.

I have 106 .GAL packets in the inbound dir.

The logs seem to show some 509 entries of the same error message each time
    the maint is run.

    10:20:54 Performing maintenance...

10:20:54 Version Mismatch, is your game up to date? (Packet: 00016 vs Local: 00017) FROM Node: 6

There are only about 5-7 packets in the BAD dir we set up so that seems not
    to be working.

Could there be some way of having maint log an error and then delete the
packet being processed vs leaving it in the inbound dir?

I'd like to sort this problem out with your help first before we set up the next game if that's OK as I don't want to confound anything with the new game by mixing any issues with packets in from the current one :)

Ideally I guess that BAD packet dir idea should be working but for some
reason it seems either the rule to move things is not right or ?? dunno.

But the main reason for writing this is to try and see if we can get GD to clear the inbound dir even if the packets are not good, better to log the
issue but delete the packets I think so other correct packets can be
    processed.

Something is a bit funny with the way your message has been sent as it all seems wrapped. Yes so far so good and I too am relieved. Today I spent some time clearing old packets off the BBS both .GAL and some older .PKT files,
some 60,000 files - it took me about 15 mins to purge them from the system.
HDD was filling up a bit :)

spent some time clearing old packets off the BBS both .GAL and some older .PKT files, some 60,000 files - it took me about 15 mins to purge them from the system. HDD was filling up a bit :)

Do you want me to add an option to just delete bad packets rather than
move them to a bad folder first?

That as an extra switch would be good, so there's the option of kill them or move them.. but logging should show what was happening, that there was an
error and X occurred as a result IMHO.

be looking to remove them unless things change. More on this in an upcoming admin post.

    Hi Andrew

    Just a GD question.

If nodes are being sent game packets (they are polling and collecting them)
and yet I don't see them appear as a node on the reports.txt output, does
this mean the system has not seen any packets inbound to the HUB from them? That's my guess.

If yes, should (if they are running the game) not their copy of GD be sending something each day as a recon - sound right?

If the HUB is not seeing anything from them should I infer that while they
are collecting GD packets from the HUB there's nothing really that I can tell to suggest if they are even running a copy of the game at their end to
process them.. I'm assuming if they were then the HUB would be seeing
    something back.

I have this happening for several nodes in the GD inter-bbs.

I'll have to think about that. I'm not sure. It does sound like they
are not running the game, as no recon packets are being generated for
the hub. I can't say for certain as I haven't looked at the interbbs
    code in a while.

    Hi

Today I ported GalacticDynasty over to MagiDoor. It's not default in git
but if anyone has a NON interbbs game and would like to test it, you can checkout the git at:

    git clone https://gitlab.com/apamment/galactic-dynasty
    git checkout magidoor

    ./build.sh

The same gotcha as with forhonour, The command line is now
GalacticDynasty DROPFILE rather than GalacticDynasty -D DROPFILE

You may need to reset the game, probably best to.

This isn't ready for the InterBBS game, as I haven't done a windows
build yet, more just for people to try it out and see if it works on
    their local systems.

The game ID is now 93

If you are in the Zone 21 league please check the ID has updated in your
config file and if not update it manually.

Please also check you are running the correct version of the game.

In the next week or so I plan to prune nodes in both Galactic Dynasty and For Honour that are inactive (not polling for game packets) and/or running wildly out of date versions of the game (which means your packets being sent to the HUB won't be getting processed as they are the wrong version)

Just FYI, after noticing that GD had been won, I started watching the STATS echo to make sure I was on the correct game ID. I have not seen
any GD or FH updates posted in there for a few days. The BRE updates
are posting daily, but not those two.

Yes thank you for reminding me, this is an oversight as I have moved things around in the backend I'll try to fix this today/tomorrow - thanks! :)

Thanks, I have set up a work around so they post from 1/101 on behalf of 1/10 for now.

My plan is to migrate 1/10 over to the same system running 1/100 but for now let's make sure these files start getting posted again each day.

I just did a manual test and that seems to have worked, next is to check they post when the BRE stats are posted overnight.

    Hey Apam,

Is 1.2.1-dev the current version of GD?

I'm running it on Windows - on an SBBS door server I created.

I have an event that runs the maintenance - but when it finishes Windows popups up with the "GalacticDynasty stopped working".

As a result, it leaves the inuse flag - so no further maintenance runs, and I guess you cannot get into the game either.

I just did a reboot to be sure and it still happens.

Any tips? (Its running on W7 32 bit - and the log doesnt show anything suspicious.).

If you are the sysop of one of these three BBS running on auto please update your software and game ID over the coming week or I will delist you from the inter-bbs league.

If you know the sysop of one of these systems please let them know about this message. My days of spending hours chasing folks to update software are behind me ;-)

What file echo are these in? I don't seem to be receiving them any more,
on my Net 1 or Net 4 system. The last one I received was a 0 byte file in September. :) It looks like I am also no longer receiving the new config files, when the game ID changes.

FSX_DOOR is where they were sent.

The 0 byte thing is an annoying thing to do with using Htick to re-hatch stuff, in short it seems if I have a file in the HUB base and try to resend it without removing the copy I hold in the HUB filebase it can end up sending out only a correct tic file with an accompanying 0kb file with it. So I end up having to remove stuff from HUB file bases each time I wish to hatch stuff. It's not good :(

Do you mean the CFG file? To be honest I forgot to send it out, although the software should be updating the game ID automatically based on a packet it gets from the HUB instance of the game that's running.

I'll hang off sending this CFG out for now as I may end up adding or removing a few nodes before I do. Need to see what's flowing and what is not. But for now if you add 98 to your current CFG that should see you right.

I just checked my GDYN after I upgraded to v1.3.0, I did not get a game

    Can you please resend?

Also I had a trash load of .BAD file, I am guessing that was because of the version mismatch.

Yep it will be because of the wrong version of the game and now you have updated because of the wrong game ID I expect.

I'm going to prune some nodes in a few days time then will hatch the CFG file out but in the meantime just run a reset on your game and change the ID number to 98

Not a problem; it's what makes open source work.

What compiler are you using for the Win32 version? I'm considering attempting to port it to OS/2.

Okay. I might just have to fire up OpenWatcom 1.9 and see what I can do with it.

OS/2 has a gcc 9 compiler as well, it's in the rpm package manager for the netlabs repositories. It works pretty well, not available as a cross-compiler within GCC, but only hosted on OS/2.

I used it to compile WWIV 5.7 on OS/2 and it seems to work pretty well. The only quirk was that I couldn't get the normal socket inheritance to work the same on OS/2 as I do on Win32 and Linux.

Althought that's a libc related issue not gcc.

Hmmm well it seems despite a reset the HUB instance is still generating a bunch of old high scores in the reports the bot would post each day. I may need to ask Apam what to kick to sort this :)

    Hi Andrew

Sometime could spare a few mins with me so I can work out why my copy of GD continues to hang after I run the game at Agency?

It seems like the inuse.flg is not being cleared when the player exits.

The script run called maintenance after the game is run and I think that's the issue.

When I run the maintenance from the command line it spits out a 'segmentation fault' error, which i guess is why the inuse.flg remains?

I cloned your repo on gitlab and built the version of the game, then copied the files over leaving the .ini file and .cfg files alone.

The problem still remains, so I'm not sure how to fix?

Of note the DIZ in the repo says the version is 1.2 but the version I had hatched out for the Linux source on fsxNet had a DIZ of 1.3 .. so I'm not 100% sure I am using the correct source?

But that said, that bug of the database being called intebbs instead of interbbs seems fixed now on the version I dropped in to Agency today.

Sure. The key is that segmentation fault. It's happening when a player
exits the game? Is it any player or a particular player? Can you zip up
the entire folder with player data and everything so I can run it through
    a debugger?

As for the diz files, it's likely I forgot to update them in the repo,
it's usually something I update just before sending to you, so it's
highly likely I sent it to you then didn't commit the change.

    Thanks,

Thanks will do, I'll send that across shortly.

As far as I can see it's when the script runs as the player exits and maintenance is run and the game hangs, it seems to happen with me and I am assuming with others, but given it's locked up few have been able to play as it reports the door is in use all the time.

:) All good, I just want to hatch out the 'current' version to make sure nodes that want to play the game are on the correct build with the bug fix.

Thanks. I found the problem and have fixed it in git.

The problem was caused by an invalid ibbs_winner.dat (ie, it said someone
won the game who wasn't playing)

I've also changed the build system to cmake, and added magidoor as a
submodule, this might make updating this time a challenge, but in the
    future should be easier.

I suggest wiping what you've got and starting fresh (save the
    galactic.ini and your script though)

    to build it is now:

    git clone --recurse-submodules \
    https://gitlab.com/apamment/galactic-dynasty

    cd galactic-dynasty
    cmake .
    make

Gotcha, well I'm glad it was something you could find causing it. I feel like I helped by flagging the issue. Guess it would impact everyone at some stage?

If it all works OK I'm picking it would be best to hatch this out to the FSX_DOOR echo as the new GDYNSRC.ZIP

A related question how would/do I get my hands on the Windows equivalent files for the new version? GDYNWIN.ZIP? Not sure there is away I can go to pick this file up. The docs were pointing to a magickabbs.com URL that's now defunct I guess. I did take a quick look at the talisman website but could not find anything there.

I'll work on Agency now and let you know. Thanks :)

No, you don't need a gitlab login to clone the repository (only if you're using private repositories or to commit)
Unless I spelled it wrong in my last email, it shouldn't prompt you for a password when you clone it.

yea it did ask me for user/pass

    sbbs@sbbs:/usr/src$ !git
    git clone --recurse-submodules http://gitlab.com/apammant/galactic-dynasty Cloning into 'galactic-dynasty'...
    Username for 'https://gitlab.com':

    Hi all

There is a new version of Galactic Dynasty that has been released.

If you are part of the inter-bbs league in fsxNet please update to this latest version which has been hatched out in the last hour.

The new version of the game is ver 1.3.2-dev

This game uses a different inter-bbs packet (version 23) so you will need yo update your game files in order for your packets to be processed at the 1/10 games + Usenet HUB.

    Please then reset your game.

The game has been reset at the HUB and the game ID is now 102

I will send out a new CFG file to drop in to your game. Node 6 (2ndchoicecore BBS) has been removed from the league.

    Thanks, Paul

    I think you're using an old build.sh?

    use cmake now,

    cmake .
    make
