The inter-bbs game has been reset and the new game ID is 17
Reset came through, and the bbs.cfg is now showing ID of 17.

I have hatched out v0.9.2 for Windows and the source code (thanks Apam!) for other OS to compile with.

I've already got it upgraded here. I didn't want to worry about trying to remember. After all, it will be next year before the reset comes
through. :)
I have hatched out v0.9.2 for Windows and the source code (thanks
Apam!) for other OS to compile with.
This version fixes an issue whereby nodes that have not updated to the latest game id for an inter-bbs game could not be identified easily
with the logging GD was generating. Apam has kindly fixed this with
this release. It just means I can identify node x and kindly ask them
to update to game id xyz if need be (although it should be automatic)
and avoid 300+ packets the Usenet+Games HUB at 21:1/10 can't toss or
do anything with :(
So please update to this version over the coming 24-48 hours and I
will also do the same, sorry to say we will need to reset the game as
the packet structures are different.
I will post when I have sent a reset out but won't do so for approx 24 hours.
So I am manually changing the game to ID 20 and will send you a new BBS.CFG for your GD directory to use.
Please reset at your end and let's see how we go.
Still having issues with assorted nodes sending incorrect game packets
as I can't seem to now issue league wide resets using the command
switches :(
So I am manually changing the game to ID 20 and will send you a new BBS.CFG for your GD directory to use.
So at the moment I need nodes 4,6,13,15 to update, I suspect there may likely be more.
LinkNodeNumber 4
LinkName Castle Rock BBS
Please reset at your end and let's see how we go.
LinkNodeNumber 6
LinkName 2nd Choice Core BBS
My bbs.cfg been done gameID 20 and reset
Does this mean I need to update GD as well?
I have 59 files in my inbound that I can't process as there are nodes
that need to update their config files please.
So at the moment I need nodes 4,6,13,15 to update, I suspect there may likely be more.

No 20... I'm fairly sure way back I mentioned it but in either regard
it was in the .CFG files I sent out... no bother, but if nodes 5, 10
and 14 can update that would help my ever growing echomail in folder
out a bit :)
The reason I assumed 21 is because I run one of those three nodes and my BBS.CFG does say 20. It has since an earlier message asking that it be updated.
I have also pulled & compiled the latest code, as of yesterday.
P.S. I think you will receive a duplicate message of the one you've already replied to. I accidentally reuploaded a blue wave packet and
have yet to master the art of deleting individual messages in Magicka.

Received and installed.
All updated on this end.
The windows version has been updated by Apam (thanks!) and I am hatching that now to nodes. I'll work on updating the games HUB now and post an update when done.
Is it possible to run GD and participate in the league or does my bbs
need to be polled by another bbs for GD stuff?
Cheers.

It's possible. You need to be able to poll the games/usenet HUB (21:1/10) to send/receive games packets. Ideally hourly as a lot of stuff flows through that system.
Sweet I can poll out no probs... it's probably about time I got off my
ass and set up my router to forward ports to Magicka anyway lol
OK so add you to the inter-bbs thingy** also?
Games HUB has been updated. I will issue a league wide reset tonight my time, so in about 7-8 hours time. When I do the game ID will move to 25 (just so you know) Hopefully systems will auto update and you won't need

My google thingy says it's 1.10am on Sun where you are so be sure to get some sleep! and thanks for the confirm :)
I'm going to be working overnights next week, so I'm trying to stay up late tonight (Saturday). I start work Sunday night at 9pm, which is usually getting close to my bedtime... :)

I have added The Bottomless Abyss to the Galactic Dynasty inter-bbs game running on fsxNet.

It did add two or three extra chars... and e followed by a couple of non-alpha chars. I deleted them. FYI, it would appear that you were
able to do something which changed my BBS.CFG automatically instead of sending a new one out?
Howdy all you Galactic Dynastyers i've got GD installed and want to set
it up to be part of the league... is there some instructions on what settings to put in the .ini file etc?
Where does the bbs.cfg file come from?
How does it all work?
There's an info file in the fsxNet infopack. I'll post it here for you (and others interested) If you do want me to add you let me know as I
need to send out an updated BBS.CFG file to active nodes soon anyway. :)
i'm ready. I think i'm too tired to attempt this tonight lol
Did I mention I'm tired also :)
Hi Avon,
I'm ready to be set up with GD. I've got it all set up just need to plug in the details!
I'm going to also issue a reset in the coming hours that will move the game id from 25 to 30 and (fingers crossed) that will work OK as it has before. I'll probably wait until tomorrow morning my time to do that so give everyone a chance to get stuff in place, but I'll post when the
reset has been sent.

Apam - do you think we could create a bad packets sub dir that GD
could toss packets from the mailer inbound into just to clear them
out if there are issues with them?
I suspect there's good and bad packets in there but also suspect
after the number in the inbound rises to 20 or 30 then GD can't
handle processing them all and borks? Just a guess.

Sure. I'll add a new option to galactic.ini for bad/old packets.
I suspect it's that I am not rewinding the directory, I'll fix that soon.
Hi Avon,

It's be design. The version I am running at the HUB has a bad packet feature added to it in an attempt to mitigate the issues we're seeing.
The underlying packet engine etc remains unchanged so it's
inter-operable with the version the rest of the net is using.

OK team the latest version from Apam is now out and I would ask everyone update to it. We will keep the same game id = 40 for now while we get folks moved over.
21:4/150 - Adam, I'm happy to add your system in and will set you up at the Games & Usenet HUB (21:1/10) so you can take part.
For some reason your netmails to me sent via 4/100 have caused the HUB to lockup both times so something is amiss with what you are sending. I am unsure what. But just wanted to acknowledge I did get the messages in the end as Dan zipped up the packets and sent them to me when he found the blockage.
Perhaps we can debug things via a chat in this echo as others more familiar with the mail tosser / BBS software you are using would be able to help.

Sure... I think Dan is likely going to have to get involved if he's got logs about what occurred on his end? I shouldn't be able
to construct any kind of packet that could crash his hub.
The Node Number in the galactic.ini file is your node number in the bbs.cfg file, not your fsxNet node number... ;) Yes, I'm speaking from experience.
The bbs.cfg file is sent out by Paul, but this is what it looks like:
That's part of the problem. The way that mutil is freezing when it tries to toss the .pkt file, it isn't logging anything... I'll see if I can look at the files with a packet analyzer and see what I can find out.
Are the Turns Per Day & Turns In Protection items that should be consistent across systems? Or does it matter?

I didn't realize there was a line in the mailin.ini file, which routes netmail to Avon to 21:1/101@fsxnet.
There is a problem somewhere in mutil in which it doesn't like routing to another address. I've commented out that line, and processed the packets with no problems. :)
aha.. yes this is the feature g00r00 added recently but I agree I think there are still issues.. let me review those netmails that just landed
but they seem OK (I think)
I didn't realize I still had that line in the mailin.ini file. I was playing around with it when g00r00 was working on it, and forgot to comment that line out... <Oooops> ;)

That should be uniform across all nodes. I know that Andrew had a check in
Take a look, and see if your system is setting a packet password for netmail. The packets are showing:
PKT password: <00H><00H><00H><00H><00H><00H><00H><00H>
I'm not sure if it's showing that because of no password being there, or if, somehow, a password of 00000000 is set somewhere...
Nevermind... I figured it out... :)

It apparently reset automatically on both of my systems. Nice. :)
Hey Avon,
I've moved Galactic Dynasty to 21:3/106 - can you please start sending
the game packets there.
You can use binkp - its alterant.leenooks.net:24555
Same password.
BTW: It just sent a bunch of files to you - but it would have been insecure, in case your insecure transfer go in a separate directory (and thus wont have been processed).
I have added a new node to the game and sent all nodes an updated
CFG file.
If nodes are being sent game packets (they are polling and collecting them) and yet I don't see them appear as a node on the reports.txt output, does this mean the system has not seen any packets inbound to the HUB from them? That's my guess.

Have upgraded galatic to v1.1.1-dev and rest on 2nd Choice Core
Should be all set here.
I just downloaded the new version from The Agency as I did not receive
the hatched file. I completed the upgrade and reset and forced a poll
but I cannot connect to your system.
I seem to have a couple problems today :(
Are you linked to FSX_DOOR file echo?
It should be working here now too... I had the silly think in Reverse.
Are you linked to FSX_DOOR file echo?
Yes, I'll send a filefix to make sure.
Hello All,
I'm looking for a little assistance with Galactic Dynasty. It looks
like I have missed one of the game resets and now all the packets are being rejected as they come in due to a version mismatch. I have been away from the BBS for a bit and I was wondering if I am on an old game .cfg file (GameID 75) or if I need to upgrade the version of the game.
I have reached out to Avon in Netmail but I'm also unsure if my netmail
is working properly after months of non use. Any assistance you can
give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Robert
Problem Solved, I upgraded to the 1.1.1 version and all my problems went away. I should have tried that first, I guess.
Take Care,
Robert

GalacticDynasty DROPFILE rather than GalacticDynasty -D DROPFILE

Hi
Today I ported GalacticDynasty over to MagiDoor. It's not default in
git but if anyone has a NON interbbs game and would like to test it,
you can checkout the git at:
git clone https://gitlab.com/apamment/galactic-dynasty
git checkout magidoor
./build.sh
Interbbs game has been reset, new game ID is now 80

Looks like mine auto-updated.
I just realized that I'm a version behind and everything is being tossed as bad. np, just compile the new version.. that's where it goes wrong. First it was lua5.3.pc not found in path, but there it is, so I
installed lua5.4 which made it worse. I'm open to suggestions
To win you have to defeat queen mapa, if you just build up stuff you'll get a higher score but won't necesarilyy win
Hey I see Australia just closed it's borders to New Zealand :(

The inter-bbs game has been won so I have reset it.
The game ID is now 93
If you are in the Zone 21 league please check the ID has updated in
your config file and if not update it manually.
Please also check you are running the correct version of the game.
In the next week or so I plan to prune nodes in both Galactic Dynasty
and For Honour that are inactive (not polling for game packets) and/or running wildly out of date versions of the game (which means your
packets being sent to the HUB won't be getting processed as they are
the wrong version)
Just FYI, after noticing that GD had been won, I started watching the STATS echo to make sure I was on the correct game ID. I have not seen
any GD or FH updates posted in there for a few days. The BRE updates
are posting daily, but not those two.

Thanks, I have set up a work around so they post from 1/101 on
behalf of 1/10 for now.
My plan is to migrate 1/10 over to the same system running 1/100
but for now let's make sure these files start getting posted again
each day.
I've hatched out a new version of the game by Apam today.

in September. :) It looks like I am also no longer receiving the new config files, when the game ID changes.

I have reset the inter-bbs game, the new game ID is 98
The 21:1/10 HUB is now running v1.3.0-dev
I just checked my GDYN after I upgraded to v1.3.0, I did not get a game reset and I am still showing Game ID 97 in the .cfg
Can you please resend?
Also I had a trash load of .BAD file, I am guessing that was because of the version mismatch.
Yep it will be because of the wrong version of the game and now you have updated because of the wrong game ID I expect.
I'm going to prune some nodes in a few days time then will hatch the CFG file out but in the meantime just run a reset on your game and change
the ID number to 98
I have completed the /RESET 98 and killed all the .BAD files. Ran the Game and /maint. and no more .BAD files. All should be good one you push out the updates in a few days.

It looks like on the Hub 4 system, you're only connected to FSX_NODE
and FSX_INFO. Did you want to connect to the other file echos? Either I can set them up for you, or you can send a netmail message to Filefix
to add them.

I'd noted you were collecting but not sending in packets... thanks for this update. I'd suggest remove all the excess packets that had been
sent to your BBS from the HUB and see if it will process the next fresh batch you collect.
I will send out a copy of the .cfg file in a few days too... but just
want to take some time to remove inactive nodes first
I ran the the gal maintance don't think it worked as the pkt was still there did what you suggested but still the same, so not not working yet.

Okay that,s cool, be looking forward to when it does came into
me inbox.
Something seems to be not working properly... I have v1.3.0-dev with
the
correct game ID configured, but the interBBS rankings on my system
only show
local players. Paul has confirmed that he's receiving packets from me
with
the correct version and game ID. I did receive a spy attack from
another
system, but nothing as far as player rankings.

Not sure, this is the only report I know Andrew.
I found the issue and reported it to apam via NetMail.

Hello Avon!
Looks like it's about time for a reset... I haven't seen any updated stats in FSX_STA since 2022-06-10.
Sometime could spare a few mins with me so I can work out why my copy
of GD continues to hang after I run the game at Agency?
Sure. The key is that segmentation fault. It's happening when a player exits the game? Is it any player or a particular player? Can you zip up the entire folder with player data and everything so I can run it through a debugger?
As for the diz files, it's likely I forgot to update them in the repo, it's usually something I update just before sending to you, so it's
highly likely I sent it to you then didn't commit the change.
Thanks will do, I'll send that across shortly.
Thanks. I found the problem and have fixed it in git.
The problem was caused by an invalid ibbs_winner.dat (ie, it said someone won the game who wasn't playing)
I've also changed the build system to cmake, and added magidoor as a submodule, this might make updating this time a challenge, but in the future should be easier.
I suggest wiping what you've got and starting fresh (save the
galactic.ini and your script though)
to build it is now:
git clone --recurse-submodules \ https://gitlab.com/apamment/galactic-dynasty
cd galactic-dynasty
cmake .
make
please let me know how that goes, I've only tested it on my system (FreeBSD)

I don't think it is building and instead errors out. Will drop a txt
file with my terminal output into your inbound dir.
Ah, sorry. I left the "fail if warning" switch on, and looks like GCC is unhappy about different things than clang was.
Should be right now if you pull from git.
As for a windows version, I'll get one to you soon, I need to set up an environment to build it first.

windows builds to ver 1.4 ? that way I can be sure everything is the 'latest' ?

No, you don't need a gitlab login to clone the repository (only if you're using private repositories or to commit)
