Middle of the week and it's lunch time. Just checking messages and eating
lunch at my desk. Gotta get out and get some sunshine. Tonight I plan to
hatch out the GD game and will update the HUB. We also have a new node
joining up and I am still working on tidying up some inactive nodes in NET 1. It's always a busy time to keep on top of stuff like that.

Hope your day is going well wherever this may find you :)

    Best, Paul

Just sitting here pushing buttons on my keyboard and moving the mouse
around a bit. Not really doing anything though.

Hopefully this new GD will work, but I'm thinking it might take a bit to
make sure the new 64 bit ints for credits is working properly. Who knows.

Hope your day is going well wherever this may find you :)

It's ok, we had a rent inspection today. Wife had a blood test that took
all morning (was a glucose test so apparently you actually need 3 tests
with a sugar drink in between).

Did a little bit on adding file areas to titan. Not sure how far I'll
    get.

I hit a snag with the DOS bbs under qemu. There's an issue with
buffering, which presents itself when uploading files. The TCP side sends
files way to fast for the serial side to keep up so it overflows and
causes errors. Not sure how to fix that one.

Not sure what I'm going to do the rest of the day. Wife went shopping
after her blood test and got me kangaroo kebabs for lunch (yum) so I'll
have to cook them, but after that. Not sure.

I've had this issue with QEMU and my 90's BBS. Zmodem sends a bunch of data
and waits for a response within "x" seconds (cant remember what X is) - but
if the data is in the TCP buffer, the receiver hasnt got it all yet, to send the ACK.

I was going to explore changing the window size - I thought you could do that in iptables (my iptables is a little rusty), that should fix it.

So instead I moved over to dosbox, which not only emulates a modem, its significantly faster than qemu, serial ports and tcpser (and no zmodem buffer issues).

I have been lucky enough to work from home and the stress levels are way up

Isn't that odd I'm finding the same thing. In spite of the fact I'm home with nothing but time I'm not able to find time to get things done. Not exactly true
I have got some things done but not what I'd expect.

We have done better here in BC than other parts of Canada although we are still

I've been off work now for a few months so I'm not sure what is happening there

The problem is shift change. Before/after we go into work we are all in the change room. A very small space. We are like sardines in a can. Some kind of changes are in order there.

I don't know how they have worked with that.

I'm checking echomail and debating going to a walk. The weather is

I had stuff to do today and was planning an outing but the town is blanketed in smoke currently so I have opted to stay indoors today.

    Hi Al :)

I'm still at my desk procrastinating after eating lunch

I had stuff to do today and was planning an outing but the town is blanketed in smoke currently so I have opted to stay indoors today.

Fires from houses or something worse? (hope not).

It's starting to pack in here too... a cold southerly is forecast to hit this afternoon with strong winds and work it's way up the country this evening.

The weather channel says it is smoke from wildfires burning in the US currently. We've had three large fires here about recently, one of them just south of town and it created a lot of smoke that probably went down south also. When all was said and done five homes were lost but those fires are out now.

It's starting to pack in here too... a cold southerly is forecast to hit this afternoon with strong winds and work it's way up the country this evening.

Most likely Washigton state just south of me. It's very dry here abouts so there are a lot of fires around here both in BC and Washington state this time of year.

The whole day was around 50% darker than it should be it was very weird. Some days later reports started coming in of brown snow on the alps after the soot deposits from the same fires landed on the hills.

A gender reveal party in a area 30 miles east from me caused a massive fire. Look at Oak Glen CA or Yucaipa CA fire.

115F weather that day did not help either.

When I lived in Vancouver I never saw or even thought about fires. Vancouver is a very wet place with lots of rain all year long. Beautiful summer days but always lush and green.

The situation here in the Okanagan is different. It's very beautiful here but we don't get a lot of rain and in the summer we get thunderstorms without rain and they often start multiple fires at once. The last fire we had here where we lost five homes was just on the outskirts of town and thankfully there is a mountain between us. I haven't gone for a look but I don't imagine there is much left on that mountain to burn now.

The whole day was around 50% darker than it should be it was very weird. Some days later reports started coming in of brown snow on the alps after the soot deposits from the same fires landed on the hills.

It was like that here today too. It wasn't so bad in town here but looking south all I could see was dark grey, no blue sky at all. It was stiking.

Ahh mental blank from last IIgs message, you enquired about RPG style games ìfor the gs.

Off hand there's Bard Tales I & II I think. They're the only ones I played. ìBut theres also Dungeon Wars, Dungeon Master, Questron II. Its actually a ìgenre that was pretty light on for the GS.

Of course you can play ultima I-V, although arguably III-V are the ones you'd ìreally want to play from the classic II range. Another one that was good on ìthe II was Autoduel, despite the you die game over aspect, which is normal ìfor every version I've seen, its a lot more playable than some.

It's 12:37pm Wed here, and the sun has not yet emerged in the Bay Area due to the smoke/fires. Never seen anything like it. It's like it's perpetually dusk, but with a sickly, orange tint. Back when I lived in the Bay Area (Tuesday), it was already looking quite odd -- it wasn't sunny like it usually was -- I had on sunglasses, but had a fleeting thought that I was looking at the moon rather than the sun (and even looked at it directly, and not through squinted eyes or anything more than sunglasses - it just really wasn't that bright).

So I wore out an n95 mask (with an exhale valve, so I wore a mask over it

And to know that it was obviously worse the next day... Sheesh.

Yeah, traditions used to be only 1 baby shower for the first child, not
each additional. So .. they reinvent a way to acquire new "stuff" with
each child by calling it "gender reveal." But yeah, why would the

It's 12:37pm Wed here, and the sun has not yet emerged in the Bay Area
due to the smoke/fires. Never seen anything like it. It's like it's perpetually dusk, but with a sickly, orange tint. Suprisingly, where I
am at, the AQI isn't that bad, so I might still pop out for a walk
    during this apocalypse.

Ha! Works well as part of the new Dune trailer, as well. Bay Area looks like an Arrakeen city right now...

Or the people that hold a gender reveal party at a park or beach, pop a balloon and then leave the confetti/ribbons/streamers everywhere for someone else to clean up.

    Ugh.

I'm sad that people don't have, oh, a name-reveal party instead. Preferably without anything that burns.

Apparently, we're seeing smoke from fires in Oregon and Washington,
but there's a marine layer at ground level keeping the smoke above
us - hence, the hellscape skies but relatively ash and smoke-free air
    at ground level.

Yeah, traditions used to be only 1 baby shower for the first child, not

I'm okay with more baby showers, though I could see being curmudgeonly about that, too.

But I'm also of the opinion that going to weddings or baby showers without bringing a gift is perfectly fine, too -- it's nice for people to gather and celebrate.

business owner of the plane service have even agreed to drop that
chemical during that heat wave? Is he/she facing consequences? And

That _is_ a good question. And I have no idea idea.

your in the Bay area aren't you? I saw on the news this AM images from San Fran looking west across the bridge .. it looked like Armageddon.

I lived in the Bay Area on Tuesday, but not on Wednesday, so the pictures are about as close as I got, other than taking a picture on Tuesday because the
sun was so dimmed from the upper-level pollution that it looked like a weird looking moon, or an orange golf ball. Or maybe something smoother.

There are a variety of different mashups people have done, and while even
just the straight, "here's random footage with Bladerunner music" is pretty neat, some of the more-edited videos take it a step further.

And I feel kinda wrong for saying this, because it wouldn't be a nice thing
to do (possibly even with asking and paying anyone who appeared in it), but these videos could do with footage of homeless people on the streets of SF.

Regardless, it's pretty terrible, and it sounds like there's a layer of ash
on everything, now. The air in SF hasn't been quite as bad as in 2018, but I don't think there was a sky like this at any point during the worst stuff
    back then.

I think I last got a haircut about a year ago, and that was just trimming the ends.

But people would probably respond to you differently if your hair was down
    to your elbows.

I kinda wanted to get it cut before starting my job, but I was expecting to
do that 7 months ago. And not have to question what I'm doing going to a hair salon during a pandemic.

I suppose I could cut my own hair. At least in my case, even if I screw up, there's plenty of buffer before it'd be short.

I wonder what it was they dropped out of that plane, and why would th do that? A streamer "It's a girl" would have been plenty.

I don't know, but my Daughter lives in Chico and my dad just sent me a news update that half of chico is destroyed by the fire already.
Waiting to hear that they are ok.

Sameup north of San Francisco. The solar output wa 3% yesterday. We had some interesting looking red sky though, certainly looked like tatooine from star wars. Today was yellow and smoky.

It's so odd, as we were talking about the fires in California... my girl and
I broke up recently and she just moved to Eugene, OR - It is the same or
worse in Eugene... just 15 miles away people are being evactuated... so I
have concern for HER - and even here, 2 hours north, its beggining to look
like Armaggedon. Such crazy times; when zombies start walking around, I won't be surprised.

Godspeed to everyone close... and its insane how much change this round of fires is bringing to me personally. Luckily no loss, but they aren't over either.
