I'm running A39 still and haven't been in the loop as to the stability of the newest upgrade. Seems a lot of the time upgrades will have added
functionality thats pretty cool but in the process several already working things gets broken after an upgrade. I see theres a pre alpha 42 and some
have said that they dig that. I would like some opinions as to what people
are experiencing and what would be a good upgrade path for me to use thats
    safe and bug free. Thanks

I'm no expert like Avon, but A41 is the last stable alpha most people are running. Close behind seems to be the latest pre-alpha of A42 2018/12/30 23:39:36 which I use here myself. Avon can clue you in as to the merits of the A42 enhancements.

Your upgrade path would be as outlined in Upgrade.txt from A39 to A40, then A40

    to A41.

Do NOT forget to backup all Mystic programs and data before installing/upgrading A39!

I have upgraded to A42, no issues to report, then again my BBS is not as popular as others, but networks are fine, logging in is fine, posting is working.. Only thing I have noticed that I think might just be a over loaded message base is when I hit the message base, I hit I to get a quick list and
go to the message bases with new messages. That seems a little slow, nothing where it will kill me but that is just me.. Otherwise it is fine. I took the long way of upgrading. I upgraded from A39 to A40, then A41, then finally
A42.. Worked fine as long as you follow all the steps.. Something I neglected to do.. ;)

Can you give me a little information about your message bases? It shouldn't really be slow but I suppose we all have different interpretations of what
    slow is! :)

How many message bases do you have and how many messages in them roughly?

My messages are on my Server, I have approximately 1100 posts with at minimum 10 or 15,000 responses, I know just in the General echo here on fsxNet there
is over 5000 posts and responses.. Not sure if this is a A42 issue or just me .. Like you said we all have different interpretations. :) Thanks for the response.. It's probably nothing.. :)

It should be relatively quick with 5000 messages in a base, but there are
also a lot of factors like your drive and CPU speed. But it could also be something in A42 as well. I do think I made some changes recently.

I appreciate the info, I will do a weed of the message base looks like there
is probably more like 20,000+ after doing a quick scan..

To give you an idea of the speed I am talking about here was the testing the last time it was speed tested (Alpha 35):

It took 0.20 of a second to calculate 300 message bases totaling 250,000 message in them. Now granted that was on a high end computer from 2011 (an Intel 2500K over-clocked to 4.6gig on a mechanical SATA2 hard drive).

So 20,000 should be chump change considering 250,000 and 300 areas took 0.20 of a second.

How long is it taking for you and what hardware are you running? I will try to do another test like that to see what is going on. I did make some changes to that system recently as I am replacing the index reader with a reworked version of it at some point.

I still haven't had the time yet to look into it but I've added it to my TODO list.
