• Message Group re-numbering

    From MeaTLoTioN@21:1/158 to g00r00 on Sun Feb 17 02:25:21 2019
    Hi g00r00,

I have a question, I wish to re-number my message groups and probably file groups to match, and wondered if there's an easy way of doing this?

The alternative thing I wanted to try if this wasn't possible is to at a
number in the group name at the beginning to organise them myself, however they're not sorted by name only group id, right?

Is there any other way I can sort them the way I want? Is renumbering the groups the only way?

    Thanks in advance! =)

There are no "numbers" for message and file groups. Well, there are numbers but those aren't used to provide order; they are unique IDs that are used as a primary key in the database.

There is not a way to change their generated unique ID.

The alternative thing I wanted to try if this wasn't possible is to at a number in the group name at the beginning to organise them myself,

They aren't sorted at all in the editor unless my brain is lying to me right now! :)

They are listed in the order that they were created. They are also processed in the order in which they appear in the configuration. You can move groups around to influence they order in which they appear or are processed during global scans.

Yes, re-ordering them in the way they appear in the Index Message Reader for example, I looked in the settings and saw for the Message Groups a "Move Before" item, but it didn't seem to do anything, obviously I am missing how that is supposed to work, but I was hoping I could say shift up or down the groups in that menu so I could have the groups ordered how I wish them to be.

I'll head back to the wiki to see if I can fill in my understanding gaps.

Yeah that does confuse people a bit it seems. The idea is that you have to copy a base, and then you can move it before another one. If you just highlight a base and select "Move before" there is no "subject" to move so it does nothing.

Hallelujah! That is exactly what I wanted to do, renumbering is no longer needed, I just wanted to re-order the bases in the index reader. This is EXACTLY what I wanted. Thank you so very much.

No problem! I figured that was what you were trying to accomplish!
