• msg reading width

From Michael2@21:2/145 to All on Mon May 6 04:02:42 2019
does anyone know how to limit the display width of msg's
I am working on converting all my menus and msgs to
support a maximum width of 40 columns

my last main hurdle is reading messages
I can not seem to find a "msghead" file to change?

i am not sure if you can.

In your theme editor make the width to be 40col and make a template for the message reader screen. In this template you can only "pass" the start line and end line of the text area, so the width must come from that setting in the theme.

I am not sure about this, havent tried it.

I am beginning to think that you can not.. from what I can tell, the
templates are for ansi only... and when I tried changing !1 to $R38!1 it
broke the header.. would only show the the left hand side of the header

Try again without using the $R38. Also, did you made a new template? the default ones are for 80cols. Make an empty template, don't put any ansi graphics/codes. Use only pipe codes for the fields and test it to see if it works. After you can manage to make it more appealing :)

Here is something to try... Create your header in ANSI or ASCII however you wish, then stop it at column 39, then skip 2 places and start again, what
that will do is give it a pseudo 40 column look, you are creating say a line that goes from column 2 to 39 then stops and starts again at column 41 then ends at column 79. I have been working on this exact thing with a Image BBS (C64 BBS) theme now for a few weeks, the menu's are just about done, next is the data file and the headers etc. It should work fine as I do the exact same thing on all 3 of my Image BBS' to create pseudo 40/80 column screens..
